A relation between the wind friction velocity and the sea surface microwave scattering
A simple recursive algorithm for the estimation of the friction velocity as a function of the air-sea temperature difference and the wind speed measured at 10-m height above the sea surface, without needing of drag coefficient, is presented.

Wind amplifies the polar sea ice retreat
The rapid polar sea ice retreat and its drivers are challenging and still unresolved questions in climate change research. In particular, the relationship between near-surface wind speed and sea ice extent remains unclear for two main reasons: (1 ...

Laser sounding of the sea surface with the aim of determining the near-surface wind speed
The possibility of determining the near-surface wind speed from aircraft measurements of the mean density of reflected pulses is considered. The method of sounding with a narrow continuous laser beam is discussed and its potential exhibited.

The monthly average distributions of sea-surface wind speeds and directions in the East Vietnam Sea
This paper analyzes a monthly global gridded sea-surface wind dataset from Jan 1991 to Dec 2020, sourced from the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS). The goal is to construct schematic maps depicting the monthly average distributions of sea-surface wind speeds and directions in the East Vietnam Sea.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Quantifying the effects of airflow distortion on anemometer wind speed measurements from merchant ships [PDF]
Anemometers on Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS) are usually located above the bridge in a region where the effects of air flow distortion, created by the presence of the ship, may be large.

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Variation of air--water gas transfer with wind stress and surface viscoelasticity [PDF]
Previous parameterizations of gas transfer velocity have attempted to cast this quantity as a function of wind speed or wind-stress. This study demonstrates that the presence of a surface film is effective at reducing the gas transfer velocity at ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...
