Remaking State Power Through a Paraquat Ban in Malaysia
Journal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.ABSTRACT This paper examines the role of the state in its ability to enact environmental regulations. Specifically, this study investigates how Malaysian state actors changed, shifted and betrayed various, oftentimes competing interests to ban paraquat, an acutely toxic herbicide.

Mind &Language, EarlyView.Humans seek to predict, explain, and control their environments. Generalizations—like those expressed by “children like candy” and “cigarettes cause cancer”—provide one resource to facilitate these tasks. We develop a proposal tying the acceptability judgments of generics to the psychological functions of generalizations.

Looking for trouble: A common threat‐detection mechanism underlying pain, fear, and anxiety
Mind &Language, EarlyView.I put forward a novel cognitive architecture for pain, fear, and anxiety, according to which these three capacities are underpinned by a common threat‐detection mechanism. This mechanism takes information about potential threats as input, assesses whether the threat is actual and, if it deems it is, outputs a threat representation.
