Environmental and local habitat variables as predictors of trophic interactions in subtidal rocky reefs along the SE Pacific coast

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Temperature generally drives latitudinal patterns in the strength of trophic interactions, including consumption rates. However, local community and other environmental conditions might also affect consumption, disrupting latitudinal gradients, which results in complex large‐scale patterns.

Predators of the destructive sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis on the Norwegian coast

open access: yes, 2014
In central Norway, populations of the green sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droe- bachiensis are collapsing, but the factors controlling its population density have not yet been elucidated. Through field sampling, we identified several sea urchin predators

Spatial expression of Hox cluster genes in the ontogeny of a sea urchin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The Hox cluster of the sea urchin Strongylocentrous purpuratus contains ten genes in a 500 kb span of the genome. Only two of these genes are expressed during embryogenesis, while all of eight genes tested are expressed during development of the adult ...

Testing the core–periphery hypothesis: a standardised multi‐phylum assessment of genetic diversity of marine coastal species

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
The core–periphery hypothesis (CPH) predicts that genetic diversity is greatest at the centre and lowest at the edges of a species' distribution because genetic diversity is a function of a species' abundance, which is also expected to be greatest at the centre and lowest at the edges of the distribution. Variants of the CPH include the ‘Ramped North' (

Effects of experimental harvest on red sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus franciscanus) in northern Washington [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Commercial harvest of red sea urchins began in Washington state in 1971. Harvests peaked in the late 1980s and have since declined substantially in Washington and other areas of the U.S. west coast.

Three‐Dimensional Graphene Aerogel Materials for Supercapacitors: Strategies and Mechanisms

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
An overview of this review about synthesis and drying of GAs, modified aerogel materials and applications in various types of supercapacitors. Graphene aerogels (GAs) exhibit exceptional potential in energy storage, particularly for high‐capacity supercapacitors (SCs), owing to their unique three‐dimensional (3D) porous structure, high conductivity ...
