Impact of Sea State on Wind Retrieval From Sentinel-1 Wave Mode Data
High-resolution wind field is essential to investigate local winds variability over the global ocean. Space-borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can provide wind observations up to hundreds of meters. Although SAR wind retrieval algorithms have been widely studied, improvements are still required.

LG-Mod Multi-Scale Approach for Sar Sea Surface Wind Directions Retrieval
IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2018A first attempt to adopt an automated selection of optimal processing local scales within the LG- Mod algorithm is presented. Aimed at Sea Surface Wind (SSW) directions retrieval from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, the novel LG-Mod multi-scale analysis mainly relies on an accuracy maximization criterion, based on the use of the marginal error ...

WindSat ocean surface wind vector and sea surface temperature retrievals
Proceedings of OCEANS 2005 MTS/IEEE, 2005WindSat is the first spaceborne fully polarimetric microwave radiometer. We describe a nonlinear optimization algorithm for WindSat wind vector and sea surface temperature retrievals. The algorithm simultaneously retrieves the atmospheric water vapor and cloud liquid water, sea surface temperature and the ocean surface wind vector that matches our ...

Sea Surface Wind Speed Retrieval From Textures in Synthetic Aperture Radar Imagery
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2022Wind-induced oriented textures (WIOTs) are commonly used to retrieve sea surface wind directions from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. In this study, we found that WIOTs are also related to sea surface wind speeds (SSWSs). The entropy values in the gray-level cooccurrence matrices (GLCMs) for SAR images containing WIOTs will become steady with ...

The Performance of Dual-Frequency Polarimetric Scatterometer in Sea Surface Wind Retrieval
Journal of Ocean University of China, 2019The wind retrieval performance of HY-2A scanning scatterometer operating at Ku-band in HH and VV polarizations has been well evaluated in the wind speed range of 0–25 ms−1. In order to obtain more accurate ocean wind field, a potential extension of dual-frequency (C-band and Ku-band) polarimetric measurements is investigated for both low and very high ...

Variational retrieval of sea surface wind vectors using a polarimetric approach
Advances in Space Research, 2004Abstract This study presents one-dimension variational retrieval of sea surface wind vectors using simulated microwave polarimetric measurements at 10.7, 18.7, and 37 GHz. The algorithm only requires four Stokes components at a single frequency; and therefore runs very efficiently.
