Positioning accuracy for the HUGIN detailed seabed mapping UUV

IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society. OCEANS'98. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36259), 2002
HUGIN is an untethered underwater vehicle (UUV) intended for bathymetric data collection for detailed seabed surveying. The HUGIN sensor suite, consisting of standard commercially available navigation sensors and a multibeam echosounder, is reviewed with respect to accuracy and important characteristics.

Side scan sonar images attributes characterization for seabed mapping

2015 IEEE/OES Acoustics in Underwater Geosciences Symposium (RIO Acoustics), 2015
The seabed characterization through side scan sonar images is generally related to the visual and subjective association between different reflection patterns or textures of the images and the types of sediments located on the seabed. The results of these studies are qualitative characterizations because they are subject to the discretion and expertise

Machine Learning for Automated Seabed Mapping

Interpreting morphological features of the seabed is a labor-intensive task for marine geologists especially when it concerns extensive portions of seabed. By applying Machine Learning (ML) techniques from the field of computer vision, it is possible to significantly streamline this process, speeding it up considerably. In this paper we present a model

Using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles For Seabed Habitat Mapping

No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. We present work concerning the use of autonomous sensors for the observation of natural phenomena. More precisely, we address the problem of using an underwater robot equipped of vision and sonar to produce maps of the spatial distribution of maerl, yielding indication of the ...

A study of prediction in seabed mapping

The aim of this research is to investigate the use of the modern prediction algorithms in seabed mapping. These prediction algorithms can be used in enhancing the quality of the measured bathymetric data to help in filtering the measured data and excluding noise  from  actual  data  to  ensure  higher  seabed  mapping  accuracy  for  more  secure ...
