Acoustic seabed classification and correlation analysis of sediment properties by QTC VIEW

Oceans '97. MTS/IEEE Conference Proceedings, 2002
A 50-kHz echo sounder and a digital waveform acquisition and seabed classification system were used to record and process echoes from embayments near southeast Vancouver Island, Canada. Each echo was preprocessed and several statistical and spectral algorithms were used to extract its characteristic patterns.

Seabed sediment classification in the northern South China Sea using inversion method

Applied Ocean Research, 2013
Abstract Sub-bottom profile data can be used not only for the interpretation of the seabed strata structure and formation, but also for seabed sediments classification using inversion method. In the present paper, sub-bottom profile data from a survey line located on the continental slope of the northern South China Sea were processed.

Seabed sediment classification of side-scan sonar data using convolutional neural networks

2017 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (SSCI), 2017
Spatially high-resolution information on the seabed sediment is import for many applications in the fields of oceanic engineering, coastal engineering, habitat mapping, and others. The seabed sediment is typically described by information based on the grain-size distribution, which are derived from sediment samples collected from the seafloor.

Bottom sediment classification method from seabed image for automatic counting system of scallop

2012 International Symposium on Optomechatronic Technologies (ISOT 2012), 2012
Each related organization conducts various fishery investigations and collects data required for estimation of resource state. In the scallop culture industry in Tokoro, Japan, the fish resources are investigated by analyzing seabed images. The seabed images are now obtainable from catamaran technology.

Seabed sediment classification using multibeam backscatter data based on the selecting optimal random forest model

Applied Acoustics, 2020
Abstract Seabed sediment classification using acoustic remote sensing technique is an attractive approach due to its high coverage capabilities and limited costs compared to taking samples of the seafloor. This paper focuses on backscatter intensity correction, sonar image quality improvement, and classifier construction, which aims to improve the ...

Seabed Mixed Sediment Classification with Multi-beam Echo Sounder Backscatter Data in Jiaozhou Bay

Marine Georesources & Geotechnology, 2014
The multi-beam echo sounder system can not only obtain high-precision seabed bathymetry data, but also obtain high-resolution seabed backscatter strength data. A number of studies have applied acoustic remote sensing method to classify seabed sediment type with multi-beam backscatter strength data, and obtained better classification results than the ...

Remote Seabed Sediment Classification and Sediment Property Estimation Using High Resolution Reflection Profiles

2001
Abstract : The long term research objective is to develop a cost effective technique for mapping the top 20 meters of sediment properties using acoustic remote sensing. In previous years, a chirp sonar was developed to provide quantitative, wideband reflection measurements of the seabed with a vertical resolution of 10 cm.

The Use of Backscatter Classification and Bathymetry Derivatives from Multibeam Data for Seabed Sediment Characterization

2018
The multibeam data provides backscatter and bathymetry accurate measurement of water depth information this valuable is related to the topography and composition of the seafloor. From multibeam dataset, the backscatter information and comprising bathymetry derivatives were interpreted using the ArcGIS software.
