Variations in downslope activity and bottom current dynamics in a land‐detached submarine channel system since the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Gollum Channel System is a land‐detached large‐scale canyon‐channel system situated offshore southwest Ireland on the Northeast Atlantic margin. The system has been considered inactive with downslope gravity flows since the last glacial period, but geophysical data in some of its branches do suggest Holocene activity.

Arctic Ocean Physiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The first order physiographic provinces of the Arctic Ocean has been defined using the recently updated International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) grid model as the main database and a semi-quantitative approach.

The Impact of Acoustic Imaging Geometry on the Fidelity of Seabed Bathymetric Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Attributes derived from digital bathymetric models (DBM) are a powerful means of analyzing seabed characteristics. Those models however are inherently constrained by the method of seabed sampling. Most bathymetric models are derived by collating a number

Geomorphological Classification of the Benthic Structures on a Tropical Continental Shelf

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Geomorphological research offers a valuable first step to understand the complexity of seafloor patterns that are likely to support particular fauna, thereby providing value for future targeted studies on benthic communities and habitats.

Developing alternatives for optimal representation of seafloor habitats and associated communities in Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The implementation of various types of marine protected areas is one of several management tools available for conserving representative examples of the biological diversity within marine ecosystems in general and National Marine Sanctuaries in ...

Acoustic Sediment Classification Using High-Frequency (400 kHz) Multibeam Data in Pari Water of Seribu Island, Indonesia

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan
Seafloor classification is essential for understanding sediment distribution, marine habitat characteristics, and resource management. Therefore, this study aimed to classify seafloor sediment in the Pari water, Indonesia using high-frequency (400 kHz ...

The Hyper-Angular Cube Concept for Improving the Spatial and Acoustic Resolution of MBES Backscatter Angular Response Analysis

open access: yesGeosciences, 2018
This study presents a novel approach, based on high-dimensionality hydro-acoustic data, for improving the performance of angular response analysis (ARA) on multibeam backscatter data in terms of acoustic class separation and spatial resolution.

Geographical and Seasonal Distribution of Australian Pygmy Right Whales (Caperea marginata) Based on Passive Acoustics

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The pygmy right whale (Caperea marginata) is one of the least studied mysticete species. To shed light on its geographic and seasonal distribution, we compiled archival acoustic recordings from 26 sites across southern Australia and developed a deep‐learning detector for pygmy right whale “doublet” vocalizations.
