Social organization and habitat use shape the gut microbiome of a marine fish

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study provides the first evidence linking habitat use—and to a lesser extent social organization—to gut microbiome composition in a wild marine fish. The results indicate that local habitat conditions are the primary driver of microbial variation, while social effects are detectable but weak.

Comparison of water velocity profiles through morphologically dissimilar seagrasses measured with a simple and inexpensive current meter

open access: yes, 2002
The influence of seagrass morphology on water flow was studied by measuring water velocity profiles through natural seagrass meadows. An array of eight solid-state electronic current meters was used to obtain profiles through meadows of Amphibolis ...

Leaf reddening in seagrasses

open access: yes, 2010
Leaf reddening is well documented in terrestrial angiosperms, but has rarely been reported in seagrasses. In a survey of the world\u27s six seagrass bioregions, we documented leaf reddening in 12 seagrass species from intertidal and shallow subtidal ...

‘Reinventing’ the Beach? Lessons from a Local Development Plan in the French Riviera

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Coastal squeeze is now so tangible both globally and locally that the focus of scientific debate has expanded from the erosion of beaches to the risk of their disappearance. In this context, it is crucial to explore local development plans that aim to preserve the long‐term existence of a beach.

Pilot seagrass transplantation trials in Forsters Bay, Narooma, NSW

open access: yes, 2003
Summary: The last reported extent of seagrass coverage in the Wagonga Inlet, Narooma was given as 148 ha, although estimates of seagrass coverage vary considerably. The channel area consists of approximately 4 ha or 2.7% of this total coverage.

300 Years of Degradation in Wales Estuaries and Coasts

open access: yesNatural Resources Forum, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The world's oceans are in a severe state of degradation, yet our understanding of that degradation is often based on changes observed only in the past 20–50 years. This narrow view leads to marine conservation efforts that aim to preserve already degraded ecosystems, shaped by shifted ecological baselines.

Geographic Patterns of Head Morphology in Syngnathus typhle Across Marine Regions

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Morphometric analysis of Syngnathus typhle head shape shows distinct geographic patterns across Baltic, North, Atlantic, and Mediterranean marine regions, driven by variation in snout length, head depth, and eye position. Findings provide a non‐invasive baseline for conservation monitoring.

Luminescence dating of coastal deposits from the Chanthaburi Plain, Thailand

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The ongoing global sea‐level rise urges us to better understand the dynamics of coastal processes for predicting future changes. Sedimentary deposits reflect past coastal environments but require precise chronological data to place evidence into a temporal context.

The measurement of seagrass photosynthesis using pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) fluorometry and its practical applications, specifically in regard to transplantation

open access: yes, 2006
Photosynthetic activity of three seagrass species, Posidonia sinuosa Cambridge et Kuo, Posidonia australis Hook. f. and Halophila ovalis (R. Br.) Hook., growing in Cockburn Sound, Western Australia, was assessed using an underwater pulse amplitude ...
