Challenges in homology search: HMMER3 and convergent evolution of coiled-coil regions [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2013
Detection of protein homology via sequence similarity has important applications in biology, from protein structure and function prediction to reconstruction of phylogenies. Although current methods for aligning protein sequences are powerful, challenges remain, including problems with homologous overextension of alignments and with regions under ...

A novel online method for locating fault coil in direct‐drive permanent magnet synchronous motor with inter‐turn short‐circuit fault using search coil array

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, 2023
This study presents a fault coil localisation approach for a direct‐drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (DDPMSM) with inter‐turn short‐circuit fault (ISF) using the search coil (SC) array.

Genetic Algorithm for TMS Coil Position Optimization in Stroke Treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive technique to stimulate human brain, has been widely used in stroke treatment for its capability of regulating synaptic plasticity and promoting cortical functional reconstruction.

The video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) detects vertical semicircular canal dysfunction. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: The video head impulse test (vHIT) is a useful clinical tool to detect semicircular canal dysfunction. However vHIT has hitherto been limited to measurement of horizontal canals, while scleral search coils have been the only accepted method ...

Flaw Size Quantification for Cable Flaw Inspection System with Inductive Search Coil Sensor

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Bridge cables are commonly used in bridge construction, and assessing their condition is crucial for ensuring bridge safety. However, current inspection methods often rely on large and heavy detection mechanical structures, which can be inconvenient ...

A calibration facility for search coil magnetometers [PDF]

open access: yesMeasurement Science and Technology, 2002
A calibration facility for search coil magnetometers (SCMs) has been built at Niemegk Geomagnetic Observatory, GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam. I describe here the commissioning of this facility. The usable frequency range of 10 mHz-100 kHz enables calibration of all standard types of SCM.

Prostate MRI: Is Endorectal Coil Necessary?—A Review

open access: yesLife, 2022
To assess the necessity of endorectal coil use in 3 Tesla (T) prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a literature review comparing the image quality and diagnostic performance with an endorectal coil (ERC) and a without endorectal coil (NERC), with a

Stator Winding Fault Detection Using External Search Coil and Artificial Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2020
This paper presents a methodology for winding stator fault detection of induction motors, using an external search coil, which is a noninvasive technique and can be applied during motor operation.

Effects of Scleral Search Coil Wear on Visual Function [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2003
The scleral search coil is widely regarded as the gold standard measurement technique for eye movements. The effect of wearing scleral search coils on human vision has not been systematically studied. However, there are anecdotal reports of degraded visual acuity, mild eye irritation, and an increase rise in intraocular pressure (IOP).

Optimal coil orientation for transcranial magnetic stimulation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We study the impact of coil orientation on the motor threshold (MT) and present an optimal coil orientation for stimulation of the foot. The result can be compared to results of models that predict this orientation from electrodynamic properties of the ...
