Estimation of hydraulic conductivity functions in karst regions by particle swarm optimization with application to Lake Vrana, Croatia [PDF]
To examine the effectiveness of various technical solutions for minimizing the adverse effects of saltwater intrusion in Lake Vrana, Croatia, a reliable mathematical model for describing the exchange of fresh- and saltwater between the lake and its ...

A Self-Parametrization Framework for Meta-Heuristics
Even while the scientific community has shown great interest in the analysis of meta-heuristics, the analysis of their parameterization has received little attention.

Natural-gradient learning for spiking neurons
In many normative theories of synaptic plasticity, weight updates implicitly depend on the chosen parametrization of the weights. This problem relates, for example, to neuronal morphology: synapses which are functionally equivalent in terms of their ...

Weak decays of triply heavy baryons in light front approach
We analyze weak decays of triply heavy baryon Ωccc++ and calculate the form factors for Ωccc++→Ξcc++/Ωcc+ transitions in a light front quark model. The momentum distributions in form factors are accessed via the pole-model parametrization.

Ray Shooting and Parametric Search [PDF]
Summary: Efficient algorithms for the ray shooting problem are presented: Given a collection \(\Gamma\) of objects in \(\mathbb{R}^ d\), build a data structure so that, for a query ray, the first object of \(\Gamma\) hit by the ray can be quickly determined. Using the parametric search technique, this problem is reduced to the segment emptiness problem.

Parametric Models of Local Search Progression [PDF]
AbstractAlgorithms that search for good solutions to optimization problems present a trace of current best objective values over time. We describe an empirical study of parametric models of this progression that are both interesting as ways to characterize the search progression compactly and useful as means of predicting search behavior.

CKM substructure from the weak to the Planck scale
We look for relations among CKM matrix elements that are not consequences of the Wolfenstein parametrization. In particular, we search for products of CKM elements raised to integer powers that approximately equal 1.
