Recent Advances in Variable‐Stiffness Robotic Systems Enabled by Phase‐Change Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Phase‐change materials (PCMs), such as shape memory alloys, hydrogels, shape memory polymers, liquid crystal elastomers, and low‐melting‐point alloys, are driving advancements in stiffness‐tunable robotic systems across a wide range of applications. This review highlights recent progress in PCM‐enabled robotics, focusing on their underlying mechanisms,

Water‐Mediated 1,7‐Palladium Aryl‐to‐Aryl Migration in an Unusual Aryne Trimerization Enables the Synthesis of Multihelicenes with Profoundly Hindered Stereogenic Axes

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
In the presence of a Pd0 catalyst, large π‐extended arynes trimerize in an unusual manner to forge extremely compact and strained chiral benzenoids. This new trimerization reaction involves a 1,7‐Pd isomerization, a rare and poorly understood process that is elucidated.

Chemoselective Synthesis of α‐Chloro and α,α‐Dichloro Acetamidines via the Carbenoids Addition to Inherently Low Electrophilic Carbodiimides

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Carbodiimides act as competent electrophilic synthons for the chemoselective addition of lithium mono‐ and di‐halocarbenoids. The transformation is provided through a single synthetic operation—hitherto elusive—halogenated acetamidines. Interestingly, the constitutively tamed electrophilicity of the starting materials is effectively counterbalanced by ...
