Human sebum contains squalene, wax esters, triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and possibly free cholesterol. The fatty acids of the ester lipids include species with chain branching or with unusual double-bond positions. The alcohol moieties of the wax esters contain unusual chain types similar to those of the fatty acids.

As studied in samples of dorsal skin taken at biopsy and measured by sebaceous cell counts, the sebaceous alveoli of immature female rats increased in size for 2 days after the implantation of 1 mg. of oestradiol benzoate, and decreased progressively on days 3, 5 and 9 to a level much below normal on day 20.

The tumor is notorious, for mimicking various benign and malignant clinical entities and for its aggressive local behavior and the potential to metastasize regionally to lymph nodes and to distant organs.
