Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Equidistant map projections of a triaxial ellipsoid with the use of reduced coordinates

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2017
The paper presents a new method of constructing equidistant map projections of a triaxial ellipsoid as a function of reduced coordinates. Equations for x and y coordinates are expressed with the use of the normal elliptic integral of the second kind and ...

The higher order regularity Dirichlet problem for elliptic systems in the upper-half space

open access: yes, 2014
We identify a large class of constant (complex) coefficient, second order elliptic systems for which the Dirichlet problem in the upper-half space with data in $L^p$-based Sobolev spaces ...

Existence and uniqueness of global solutions to fully nonlinear second order elliptic systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We consider the problem of existence and uniqueness of strong a.e. solutions u:Rn⟶RNu:Rn⟶RN to the fully nonlinear PDE system F(⋅,D2u)=f, a.e. on Rn,(1) F(⋅,D2u)=f, a.e. on Rn,(1) when f∈L2(Rn)Nf∈L2(Rn)N and F is a Carathéodory map.

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

Regularity Result for Quasilinear Elliptic Systems with Super Quadratic Natural Growth Condition

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
We consider boundary regularity for weak solutions of second-order quasilinear elliptic systems under natural growth condition with super quadratic growth and obtain a general criterion for a weak solution to be regular in the neighborhood of a given ...

Novel numerical method based on cubic B-splines for a class of nonlinear generalized telegraph equations in irregular domains

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2020
In this work, a cubic B-spline method based on finite difference and meshless approaches for solving 2D generalized telegraph equations in irregular single and multi-connected domains is presented.

Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.

Nonzero positive solutions of a multi-parameter elliptic system with functional BCs

open access: yes, 2017
We prove, by topological methods, new results on the existence of nonzero positive weak solutions for a class of multi-parameter second order elliptic systems subject to functional boundary conditions. The setting is fairly general and covers the case of

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.
