Epoetin alfa increases frataxin production in Friedreich's ataxia without affecting hematocrit. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Objective of the study was to test the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of two single doses of Epoetin alfa in patients with Friedreich's ataxia. Ten patients were treated subcutaneously with 600 IU/kg for the first dose, and 3 months later with 1200 ...

Plaza de Moros (Villatobas, Toledo) and the hillforts of the second Iron Age in the middle Tajo basin

open access: yesTrabajos de Prehistoria, 2004
The excavations of the last five years in the hillfort of Plaza de Moros are producing interesting information on the Second Iron Age settlement systems in the Middle Tajo Basin. We are beginning to know aspects of the carpetanian settlements in the the Centre of the Peninsula, such as the defensive systems of its settlements and its characteristic ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Collapse or transformation? Regeneration and innovation at the turn of the first millennium BC at Arslantepe, Turkey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ongoing excavations at Arslantepe in south-eastern Turkey are revealing settlement continuity spanning two crucial phases at the transition from the second to the first millennium BC: the post-Hittite period and the development of Syro-Anatolian ...

‘In Her I See/All Beauties Frailty’: Mirroring Helen of Troy and Elizabeth I in Thomas Heywood’s The Iron Age and The Second Part of The Iron Age (c.1596/c.1610)

open access: yesLiterature, 2022
In this article I argue that Helen of Troy in Thomas Heywood’s The Iron Age I & II can be read as a figure for Elizabeth I during her final decade. Heywood appropriates multiple sources to emphasise images of age, decay and death which connect Helen and Elizabeth by evoking concerns that were prevalent as the Queen aged.

Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Distribution in Gaul of amphorae produced in Fondi / Southern Latium in the Second Iron Age

open access: yes, 2023
In the Fondi plain on the tyrrhenian coast of Italy, a series of amphora production sites have been discovered in the 1970s and sherds collected in a land survey (Hesnard et al. 1989). As some of the stamps on sherds among the Fondi production were identical to those on amphorae found in the shipwreck La Madrague de Giens off the French Mediterranean ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...
