‘Idiopathic’ second-trimester abortion — a reproductive failure
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 1986The results of the investigation of all 238 immature deliveries (second-trimester abortions) that occurred in the period 1973 to 1985 in the Academic Hospital of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam are presented. The incidence after 1979 was found to be increasing. Excluding all deliveries with a known cause, 126 'idiopathic' cases remained.

Dilatation and curettage for second-trimester abortions
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1977This study reports the outcome of 2,500 consecutive second-trimester abortions performed with the dilatation and curettage methods. Of the abortions, 99.2 per cent were for gestations between the fifteenth and eighteenth menstrual weeks of pregnancy.

Epidural morphine analgesia in second-trimester induced abortion
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1980Epidural administration of 2 mg of morphine to 16 patients who were undergoing induced abortion in the second trimester of pregnancy abolished labor pains in 10 of them within 10 to 20 minutes after treatment was begun. Family Planning Perspectives, 1984Late abortion remains a complex and difficult issue in the United States, where about 10 percent of all abortions are performed at 13 or more weeks' gestation. The reasons why women delay having abortions appear to be largely personal, and most are not amenable to public health intervention.
