Cyber Network Design for Secondary Frequency Regulation: A Spectral Approach

2018 Power Systems Computation Conference (PSCC), 2018
We present a preliminary theoretical framework based on spectral graph theory that captures how the cyber topology of a distributed secondary frequency control scheme impacts the stability, optimality, and transient performance of our power system as a cyber-physical network.

The cost of curtailing wind turbines for secondary frequency regulation capacity

Energy Systems, 2013
We analyze the cost of curtailing the active power output of a wind farm to provide secondary frequency regulation capacity. We calculate the regulation capacity available and its cost by simulating the active power output of a curtailed 100-MW wind farm with a hybrid of real wind speed data and simulated high-frequency turbulence.

An inductive-link with a regulated secondary voltage based on frequency adjustment

2015 IEEE PELS Workshop on Emerging Technologies: Wireless Power (2015 WoW), 2015
This paper shows a wireless powering system for implantable biomedical devices that does not need a voltage regulator inside the body. The regulated voltage is obtained in the secondary of an inductive link and is controlled by varying the operating frequency of the inductive link.

A novel frequency control strategy of micro-source based on the secondary frequency regulation of power system

2012 China International Conference on Electricity Distribution, 2012
Because of small capacity and low inertia of the inverter based micro-source, loads changing have great impact on the frequency and voltage of islanded micro-grid. A novel frequency control strategy of micro-source based on the secondary frequency regulation of power system is proposed in this paper. Traditional droop control strategy of micro-grid can'

Unit Commitment with Integrated Energy System Considering Primary and Secondary Frequency Regulation

2021 5th International Conference on Green Energy and Applications (ICGEA), 2021
With the development of renewable energy generation (REG) such as wind power, the economic operation of power system is greatly challenged by the phenomenon of wind curtailment. To reduce the operation cost of power system and improve the accommodation capacity of renewable energy, a unit commitment (UC) model with integrated energy system (IES ...

Frequency Regulation by Distributed Secondary Loads on Islanded Wind-Powered Microgrids

IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, 2016
Frequency regulation is critical to the successful operation of remote wind–diesel electrical grids. When the grid is in ‘wind–diesel’ mode, frequency regulation is (classically) the sole duty of the diesel electric generator (DEG). An alternative approach is proposed whereby responsibility for frequency regulation is shared by the DEG and a network of

Distributed Event-Triggered Secondary Frequency Regulation by Sharing HESS Power in Microgrids

IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid
The fluctuated power output of renewable energy sources brings new challenges to frequency control, especially for islanded microgrids with small spinning reserves. However, energy storage systems and widespread flexible loads can be employed to the frequency regulation thanks to their flexibility of power outputs. This paper investigates the frequency

Battery energy storage systems for the provision of primary and secondary frequency regulation in Italy

2016 IEEE 16th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering (EEEIC), 2016
Currently, Non-Programmable Renewable Energy Source (NPRES) generation contributes significantly to demand supply, but participation to ancillary services is still limited to emergency support (e. g. curtailment of energy production in case of over-generation, fast active power reduction in case of large over-frequency transients).

Economic transactions due to primary and secondary regulation of frequency in Argentina, methods and experience

2000 Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37134), 2002
This paper presents the method developed and applied to evaluate the costs for primary and secondary regulation of frequency in the economic transactions between the companies forming the Argentinian electric system. To consider the primary frequency regulation, the method is based on a redistribution of the income that the generators collect for ...
