Plant Metabolites Screening Identifies 7‐epi‐10‐Deacetyltaxol Inhibiting Cell Division by Interfering With the Cell Cycle and Microtubule Organization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, an efficient screening system is developed for plant metabolites to find a compound, 7‐epi‐10‐deacetyltaxol, inhibits tissue elongation. It suppresses plant growth through brassinosteroid and microtubule pathways. It is later applied to animal cells and human tumor organoids, resulting in similar cell division suppression. These findings

Blue Light Receptor PHR2‐Mediated Spectrum Antiviral Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Blue light suppresses RBSDV through the blue‐light receptor ZmPHR2, which interacts with ZmISP in chloroplasts to trigger ROS burst and antiviral defense. The viral effector P6 enhances ZmPHR2–ZmISP interaction, alters their distribution, and suppresses ROS.

Seeds of change: The impact of Ethiopia's direct seed marketing approach on smallholders' seed purchases and productivity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract While multiple factors explain low adoption rates of improved varieties by small‐scale farmers in sub‐Saharan Africa, a key supply‐side constraint is the limited availability of seed embodying new traits in the volume, quality, price, and timeliness required by farmers. This constraint is partly attributable to classical failures in the market

Polyethylene Terephthalate Micro/Nano-Plastics Induce Structural and Conformational Changes in Cedar Pollen Proteins: Spectroscopic and Molecular Dynamics Evidence

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Pollen allergy represents a growing public health concern, yet the role of microplastic pollution in modulating allergen behavior remains largely unresolved.

Reproductive stages in lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) occur earlier with increasing temperature

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Climate change is altering the timing of many plant phenological events, yet most studies focus on flowering, with less attention given to later reproductive stages such as fruit development and ripening. Vaccinium angustifolium (lowbush blueberry) is an important perennial berry species that may be sensitive to these changes.

Climate variability and human impact in South America during the last 2000 years: synthesis and perspectives from pollen records [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An improved understanding of present-day climate variability and change relies on high-quality data sets from the past 2 millennia. Global efforts to model regional climate modes are in the process of being validated against, and integrated with, records

Anther evolution: pollen presentation strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Male-male competition in plants is thought to exert\ud selection on flower morphology and on the temporal presentation\ud of pollen. Theory suggests that a plant???s pollen dosing strategy should\ud evolve to match the abundance and pollen transfer ...

BarnebyLives: An R package to create herbarium specimen labels and clean spreadsheets

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Accessioning herbarium specimens is labor intensive, yet remains vital for research in ecology, evolution, and conservation. As institutional support for herbaria declines, efficient tools are needed to streamline this process. The R package BarnebyLives was developed to assist collectors by supplementing collection notes, verifying ...

Bite force estimates and morphological correlations of jaw muscles in parrots

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Parrots (Order: Psittaciformes) are renowned for their high bite force (BF) and morphological correlates thereof, including a highly mobile skull and two unique mandibular adductor muscles—m. pseudomasseter and m. ethmomandibularis, with the former being hypothesized to increase force output.

Fatty acid composition of pollen and the effect of two dominant fatty acids (linoleic and oleic) in pollen and flour diets on longevity and nutritional composition of honey bees (apis mellifera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The size of the apiculture industry in Western Australia (W.A.) is one of the smallest in the nation but the production of pollen and honey per colony is the highest in Australia.
