Effects of Chemical Post-treatments on Structural and Physicochemical Properties of Silk Fibroin Films Obtained From Silk Fibrous Waste

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Silk fibroin (SF) is a protein polymer claimed to have outstanding potential for medical applications. However, because of the manufacturing process, materials from regenerated SF exhibit a higher percentage of amorphous structures.

Characterization of Tenebrio molitor Larvae Protein Preparations Obtained by Different Extraction Approaches

open access: yesFoods, 2022
Edible insects have recently attracted research attention due to their nutritional value and low environmental footprint. Tenebrio molitor larva was the first insect species to be classified by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as safe for human ...

The secondary structure of RNA under tension

open access: yes, 2002
We study the force-induced unfolding of random disordered RNA or single-stranded DNA polymers. The system undergoes a second order phase transition from a collapsed globular phase at low forces to an extensive necklace phase with a macroscopic end-to-end

Effect of oxidative treatment on the secondary structure of decoloured bloodmeal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Bloodmeal can be decoloured using peracetic acid resulting in a material with a pale-yellow colour which only needs sodium dodecyl sulphate, water and triethylene glycol to extrude into a semi-transparent bioplastic.

Effects of processing methods on the properties and digestibility of protein and fat in meat products

open access: yesFood Materials Research, 2023
Protein and fat in foods of animal origin are important macronutrients for maintaining human growth and function. When measuring the nutritional properties of animal-derived diets, it is important to consider the effect of processing methods on their ...

SECONDARY STRUCTURES OF DNA [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1969
In view of the differences of the X-ray diffraction patterns for DNA fibers at 66 and 92 per cent relative humidities, it is proposed that the secondary structure of DNA consists of two partially intercalated double helices at 92 per cent. Possible biological implications are discussed.

Preferences of Pediatric Patients and Their Caregivers for Chemotherapy‐Induced Nausea and Vomiting Control Endpoints: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Although not always achieved, complete chemotherapy‐induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) control is the conventional goal of CINV prophylaxis. In this two‐center, mixed‐methods study, we sought to understand the preferences of adolescent patients and family caregivers for CINV control endpoints.

Effect of high hydrostatic pressure on the secondary structure of microbial transglutaminase

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2004
Enzyme activity and corresponding secondary structure, measured by circular dichroism was analysed before und after treatment of microbial transglutaminase at different temperatures (40, 80°C) and pressures (0.1, 200, 400, 600 MPa).

Secondary Electron Emission from Surfaces with Small Structure

open access: yes, 2015
It is found that for objects possessing small surface structures with differing radii of curvature the secondary electron emission (SEE) yield may be significantly higher than for objects with smooth surfaces of the same material.
