Summary In 1962 Carlquist published “A Theory of Paedomorphosis in Dicotyledonous Woods” based on his observations that some species of non-tree growth forms such as stem succulents, lianas, woody herbs, and tree rosettes exhibit, in their secondary xylem, cellular characteristics more commonly associated with primary xylem.

Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

Tomato yellow leaf curl virus upregulates the Bemisia tabaci UDP‐glycosyltransferase gene UDP‐Bta06664. RNA interference (RNAi) silencing of this gene disrupts phloem feeding—delaying E1 and shortening E2—and reduces both virus acquisition and inoculation, highlighting its potential as an RNAi target.
