Secular variations of the geomagnetic field on litosphere plates of the Earth

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2018
The dependence of the value and sign of the geomagnetic secular variations (SV) refined of 3- and 11-year components on the position of observatories at different tectonic plates is investigated.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Lopsidedness and Sloshing in Centres of Advanced Mergers of Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We measure the non-axisymmetry in the luminosity distribution in the central few kpc of a sample of advanced mergers of galaxies, by analyzing their 2MASS images.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Geomagnetic Core Field Secular Variation Models

open access: yesSpace Science Reviews, 2009
We analyse models describing time changes of the Earth’s core magnetic field (secular variation) covering the historical period (several centuries) and the more recent satellite era (previous decade), and we illustrate how both the information contained in the data and the a priori information (regularisation) affect the result of the ill-posed ...

Jovimagnetic secular variation [PDF]

open access: yes
Long term variations of a planetary magnetic field are one of the few observables available in the study of planetary interiors and dynamo theory. While variations of the geomagnetic field were accessible to direct measurement for centuries, knowledge of

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Lunar nitrogen: Secular variation or mixing? [PDF]

open access: yes
The two current models to explain the nearly 40% variation of the lunar nitrogen isotopic composition are: (1) secular variation of solar wind nitrogen; and (2) a two component mixing model having a constant, heavy solar wind admixed with varying amounts

Multi-spin dynamics of the solid-state NMR Free Induction Decay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a new experimental investigation of the NMR free induction decay (FID) in a lattice of spin-1/2 nuclei in a strong Zeeman field. Following a pi/2 pulse, evolution under the secular dipolar Hamiltonian preserves coherence number in the Zeeman ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...
