Metabolic Functions and Mechanisms of Selenium, Selenocysteine, and GPX4 Mediated Immune Regulation Through Autophagy in Solid Tumors

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
This paper focuses on selenium, selenocysteine, and GPX4, elaborating on their metabolic functions and mechanisms in mediating immune regulation through autophagy in solid tumors. It explores the characteristics of selenium metabolism in tumors and the roles of related enzymes, providing new directions for cancer treatment.

A defined mutation in the protein export gene within the spc ribosomal protein operon of Escherichia coli: isolation and characterization of a new temperature‐sensitive secY mutant. [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 1984
We describe the properties of a temperature-sensitive mutant, ts24, of Escherichia coli. The mutant has a conditional defect in export of periplasmic and outer membrane proteins. At 42 degrees C, precursor forms of these proteins accumulate within the cell where they are protected from digestion by externally added trypsin.

Prospective study of canine leptospirosis in shelter and stray dog populations: Identification of chronic carriers and different Leptospira species infecting dogs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Dogs are highly susceptible to the leptospiral infection, notably stray and sheltered dogs. Unsanitary conditions often observed in dog shelters may predispose the introduction and spread of leptospires among sheltered populations, potentially increasing

Liebig Review: Legume–Rhizobium Symbiosis Under Selenium Fertilization: A Unique Dual Function in the Plant–Soil System

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Volume 188, Issue 6, Page 861-872, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Selenium (Se) plays a vital role as a beneficial element in promoting the production of leguminous plants. It influences legume quality by improving crop nutritive value and contributing to human and animal health. Literature Review This review is timely, as there are gaps in understanding Se–rhizobia interactions in legumes, which ...

The Silent Shift: Investigating Selenium Biovolatilization in Natural Environments

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Selenium (Se) is essential for human health. Organisms produce volatile Se through metabolism, which is an essential but hidden component of the Se geochemical cycle. Understanding this natural cycle is vital for sustainable development and ecosystem protection, thereby preserving planetary health and fostering harmonious coexistence between ...

Bacterial protein translocation requires only one copy of the SecY complex in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The transport of proteins across the plasma membrane in bacteria requires a channel formed from the SecY complex, which cooperates with either a translating ribosome in cotranslational translocation or the SecA ATPase in post-translational translocation.

Leptospira in Brazilian Bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera): A Systematic Review

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
We performed a systematic review on bats and Leptospira in Brazil. 8 studies were conducted between 1976 and 2024, with 66 bat taxa found positive, 1 Leptospira species and four serovars identified. Graphical abstract made with Biorender. ABSTRACT Bats are a megadiverse clade with plural ecological functions, including their role as bacterial, viral ...
