MAGNESIUM AS A SEDATIVE [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Psychiatry, 1922
It was shown by Meltzer and Auer in 1905 that the primary effect of magnesium upon the nerve cells is that of paralysis without any preceding excitation. The effect seemed to be exclusively of an inhibitory character. They injected subcutaneously into rabbits varying amounts of a 25 per cent solution of magnesium sulphate.

Prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and staphylococcal toxin genes of blaTEM‐1a‐producing Staphylococcus aureus isolated from animals in Chongqing, China

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 9, Issue 1, Page 513-522, January 2023., 2023
The average isolation rate of livestock‐associated S. aureus is 6.5%, and the S. aureus isolates showed high resistance to a wide range of antimicrobials. Most strains, with the exception of three chicken‐associated strains, harbored blaTEM‐1a gene. All S.

Splines 'n Lines: Rest-frame galaxy spectral energy distributions via Bayesian functional data analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Survey-based measurements of the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of galaxies have flux density estimates on badly misaligned grids in rest-frame wavelength. The shift to rest frame wavelength also causes estimated SEDs to have differing support. For many galaxies, there are sizeable wavelength regions with missing data.

Understanding the Drivers of Coastal Flood Exposure and Risk From 1860 to 2100

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 10, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Global coastal flood exposure (population and assets) has been growing since the beginning of the industrial age and is likely to continue to grow through 21st century. Three main drivers are responsible: (a) climate‐related mean sea‐level change, (b) vertical land movement contributing to relative sea‐level rise, and (c) socio‐economic ...

Temperament influences on parenting and child psychopathology: Socio-economic disadvantage as moderator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Despite calls for research on how the socio-economic environment may be related to temperament we still do not know enough about the relationship between temperament and socio-economic disadvantage (SED).

The Paris Agreement and Climate Justice: Inequitable Impacts of Sea Level Rise Associated With Temperature Targets

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 10, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are causing unprecedented changes to the climate. In 2015, at the United Nations (UN) Conference of the Parties in Paris, France, countries agreed to limit the global mean temperature (GMT) increase to 2°C above preindustrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Repeating Low Frequency Icequakes in the Mont‐Blanc Massif Triggered by Snowfalls

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 127, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Deformation mechanisms of glaciers are highly sensitive to basal temperature; the motion of temperate glaciers is dominated by basal slip while cold‐based glaciers deform mainly by internal creep. While basal slip is usually aseismic, unstable slip sometimes occurs and can be detected by seismometers.
