Consentful Contention in Revolutionary Times: Debating Elite Corruption at Communist Party Congresses in Poland and East Germany

open access: yesZeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung, 2023
Existing scholarship treats congresses of the ruling communist parties in the Eastern Bloc as staged performances intended to manufacture support and signal new policy trends. This article, using the examples of extraordinary party congresses held during

Shape of Dynamical Heterogeneities and the Stokes-Einstein and Stokes-Einstein-Debye Relations in Suspensions of Colloidal Ellipsoids

open access: yes, 2014
We examine the role of shape of dynamical heterogeneities on the validity of the Stokes-Einstein (SE) and Stokes-Einstein-Debye (SED) relations in quasi-two-dimensional suspensions of colloidal ellipsoids.

Modeling the HD32297 Debris Disk with Far-IR Herschel Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
HD32297 is a young A-star (~30 Myr) 112 pc away with a bright edge-on debris disk that has been resolved in scattered light. We observed the HD32297 debris disk in the far-infrared and sub-millimeter with the Herschel Space Observatory PACS and SPIRE ...

Tracing black hole accretion with SED decomposition and IR lines: from local galaxies to the high-z Universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present new estimates of AGN accretion and star formation (SF) luminosity in galaxies obtained for the local 12 μm sample of Seyfert galaxies (12MGS), by performing a detailed broad-band spectral energy distribution (SED) decomposition including the ...

Engineering Porous Hollow Metal‐Poly(Heptazine Imide) Spheres: An Optimized Synthetic Strategy for Controlling Surface, Morphology, and Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hollow poly(heptazine imide) spheres are prepared through a novel approach that integrates hard templating with ionothermal synthesis. This method enables precise control over surface area, pore volume, hydrophilicity, light absorption, band position, and metal composition. These tunable properties facilitate the customized design of semiconductors for

The SED-GIH: A Single-Item Question for Assessment of Stationary Behavior—A Study of Concurrent and Convergent Validity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2019
The unfavorable health consequences of prolonged time spent sedentary (stationary) make accurate assessment in the general population important. However, for many existing questionnaires, validity for identifying stationary time has not been shown or has

Evolution of the stellar-merger red nova V1309 Scorpii: SED analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
One very important object for understanding the nature of red novae is V1309 Sco. Its pre-outburst observations showed that, before its red-nova eruption in 2008, it was a contact binary quickly evolving to the merger of the components.

Unveiling Phonon Contributions to Thermal Conductivity and the Applicability of the Wiedemann—Franz Law in Ruthenium and Tungsten Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal transport in Ru and W thin films is studied using steady‐state thermoreflectance, ultrafast pump–probe spectroscopy, infrared‐visible spectroscopy, and computations. Significant Lorenz number deviations reveal strong phonon contributions, reaching 45% in Ru and 62% in W.

Irradiation of Astrophysical Objects - SED and Flux Effects on Thermally Driven Winds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We develop a general method for the self consistent calculation of the hydrodynamics of an astrophysical object irradiated by a radiation field with an arbitrary strength and spectral energy distribution (SED).
