Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

The origin of beach sediments on the North Queensland coast [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Petrographic and granulometric analyses of North Queensland beach sediments indicate their affinity with sediments delivered to the coast by rivers, and it is shown that the beaches are largely derived from fluvial sediment reworked, sorted and ...

Community genomic analyses constrain the distribution of metabolic traits across the Chloroflexi phylum and indicate roles in sediment carbon cycling

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2013
BackgroundSediments are massive reservoirs of carbon compounds and host a large fraction of microbial life. Microorganisms within terrestrial aquifer sediments control buried organic carbon turnover, degrade organic contaminants, and impact drinking ...

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Effects of growth and starvation conditions on bacterial adhesion to plastic surfaces

open access: yesNational Science Open
The effects of nutrient conditions on the formation of plastisphere were unclear. This study investigated the impacts of growth and starvation conditions on the adhesion of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria to six plastics in both salt ...

Paleogeographic numerical modeling of marginal seas for the Holocene – an exemplary study of the Baltic Sea [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
The sustainable management of marginal seas is based on a thorough understanding of their evolutionary trends in the past. The paleogeographic evolution of marginal seas is controlled not only by global and regional driving forces (eustatic sea-level ...

Sediment phosphorus flux in Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Internal phosphorus (P) loading may influence primary production in lakes, but the influence of sediment-derived P has not been well studied in Beaver Lake of Northwest Arkansas.

A nucleotide‐independent, pan‐RAS‐targeted DARPin elicits anti‐tumor activity in a multimodal manner

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We report a Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein that binds and inhibits RAS proteins, which serve as central cell signaling hubs and are essential for the progression of many cancers. Its unique feature is that it does not discriminate between different RAS isoforms or mutations and is capable of binding to RAS in both its active (GTP‐bound) and inactive ...

Geostatistical mapping and spatial variability of surficial sediment types on the Beaufort Sea shelf based on grain size data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The nearshore Beaufort Sea is a sensitive marine environment that is also the focus of oil and gas exploration. Offshore, the Beaufort Sea contains large potential reserves of hydrocarbons.

Benthic macrofauna and sediment reworking quantification in contrasted environments in the Thau Lagoon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
As part of the Microbent-PNEC Program: ‘‘Biogeochemical processes at the wateresediment interface in eutrophicated environment’’, the aim of this work was to specifically investigate and quantify the relationships between macrobenthos and sediment ...
