Modelling Patterns of Past Inundation Processes Combining Geoarchaeology and Morphometric Hydrological Analysis in the Shashe‐Limpopo Basin, South Africa

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Riverine and valley systems across the globe have been central to the development of past urban centres. By AD 900, the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers seem to have facilitated the interaction and integration of early farming communities in southern Africa. This paper focuses on the application of geoarchaeological perspectives made available by the

Facies and Facies Architecture of the Ivanić Grad Formation (Upper Pannonian) - Sava Depression, NW Croatia

open access: yesGeologia Croatica, 2002
Four facies were distinguished within the Ivanić Grad Formation ofthe Sava Depression: massive marl facies (F1), thick-bedded to massivesandstone facies (F2), thin-bedded sandstone facies (F3) and thinbeddedsandstone, siltite and marl facies (F4 ...

Mississippi Fan Sedimentary Facies, Composition, and Texture

open access: yes, 1985
Eight different sedimentary facies recognized in the Mississippi Fan sediments drilled during DSDP Leg 96 are defined on the basis of lithology, sedimentary structures, composition, and texture.

Geoscience teaching using local geological materials (1) : Application of sedimentary facies analysis and its educational implication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We planned to make a new teaching program to which the sedimentary facies analysis is applicable. Sedimentary facies is defined by the feature of grain size, fossils, and sedimentary structure.

Out in the cold? A review of Early Middle Palaeolithic settlements in northern Central Europe, age data and geological preconditions for site formation and preservation

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The characteristics of settlement of Neanderthals in northern Central Europe during the earlier phases of the Middle Palaeolithic (Marine Isotope Stage 8–6) have been a matter of debate for decades, specifically regarding the population dynamics at such latitudes during the coldest phases. In this paper, we review the known archaeological record of the

The Bay of Mont Saint Michel. Sedimentary facies, morphodynamics and Holocene evolution of a hypertidal coastal system

open access: yes, 2022
International audienceThe aim of this 3-day field trip in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, located between Normandy and Brittany (NW France), is to examine the different sedimentary environments, which compose this hypertidal coastal system (a tide ...

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Sedimentary Architecture Prediction Using Facies Interpretation and Forward Seismic Modeling: Application to a Mediterranean Land–Sea Pliocene Infill (Roussillon Basin, France)

open access: yesGeosciences
This study predicts sedimentary architectures and facies distribution within the Pliocene prograding prism of the Roussillon Basin (Gulf of Lion, France), developed along an onshore–offshore continuum.

Droughts and human impact in the ancient Uaymil region of the Maya lowlands inferred from a 2800‐year sedimentary archive at Lake Kaná, Mexico

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The relationship between the climate and societal transformation in Maya lowlands has long been debated, particularly the role of drought in shaping the civilization trajectory during the Classic Period. A high‐resolution, multi‐proxy, geochemical record from Lake Kaná, located in the underexplored Uaymil region of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico ...
