Late Quaternary climatic variability in the Eastern Mediterranean recorded in Hermes Cave, Corinth Rift, Greece

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Greek peninsula lies at the intersection of major atmospheric circulation systems, making it a key location for reconstructing past climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean. In this study, we present a new high‐resolution multi‐proxy speleothem record from Hermes Cave, located on the shoulder of the Corinth Rift in southern Greece.

The δCe-ΣREE Instruction on the Sedimentary Facies

open access: yesProcedia Earth and Planetary Science, 2011
AbstractBased on the analysis of the rare earth elements (REEs) concentration, ratios and distribution pattern in the acid fractions at the Xiaohushan (XHS) section in Ejina basin. The results show that the δCe-ΣREE plot and regression equation can clearly distinguish sediments from lacustrine deposits and the eolian sand. The boundary can be described

Faunal differences (R-values) between sedimentary facies.

open access: yes, 2014
R-values derived from pair-wise analysis of similarities (ANOSIM) tests for differences between sedimentary facies based on relative abundance data of species/functional traits. Bold indicates significant difference at P

Identifying and Interpreting Stratification in Sedimentary Rocks on Mars: Insight from Rover and Orbital Observations and Terrestrial Field Analogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sedimentary rocks on Mars provide insight into past aqueous and atmospheric processes, climate regimes, and potential habitability. The stratigraphic architecture of sedimentary rocks on Mars is similar to that of Earth, indicating that the processes ...

The Glacial Legacy of the Geneva Basin: Morphology and implications of an intricate tunnel valley system revealed from 3D seismic data

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Like other perialpine basins and glaciated margins, the Geneva Basin in SW Switzerland is characterised by buried tunnel valleys, which are elongated incisions widely attributed to subglacial meltwater erosion beneath continental ice sheets. However, an inclusive understanding of the geological control on the evolution of the glacial landscape

Marine Isotope Stage 4 glaciation in northern England, UK: Evidence from Victoria Cave, North Yorkshire

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Victoria Cave, north Yorkshire, England, contains a long sequence of Pleistocene clastic sediments and calcite flowstones. Earlier work, using U–Th dating, established that the flowstone units formed in interglacial stages corresponding to Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 13, 11, 9, 7 and 5.

Sedimentary Facies and Favorable Coal Seam Analysis of Leping Formation (Late Permian)in Junlian Area

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2020
The paper studied on the stratigraphic characteristics, sedimentary facies, and the relationship between the sedimentary facies and coal accumulation through the observation and description of the drilling cores and outcrop sections of Leping Formation ...

Columnanidus calitzdorpensis ichnogen. ichnosp. nov: A new Middle Pleistocene subterranean termite trace fossil from South Africa

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Termites are landscape geo‐engineers whose nesting activities substantially modify the physical and chemical properties of soils. Fossilised termite nests commonly constitute the only identifiable evidence of ancient termite activity and represent valuable trace fossil archives for reconstructing past environments.

A reevaluation of the late quaternary sedimentation in todos os Santos Bay (BA), Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2000
Todos os Santos Bay is a large ( 1000 km²), structurally controlled tidal bay in northeast Brazil. Three main drainage basins debouch into the bay, providing a mean freshwater discharge of 200 m³/s (prior to 1985), or less than 1% of the spring tidal ...

The skeletal carbonate contribution to mixed terrigenous-carbonate sediments on the temperate northeastern Northland continental shelf, New Zealand

open access: yes, 2012
The northeastern Northland continental shelf (NNCS) includes the coastal, shelf and uppermost slope seafloor out to depths of 210 m and over a distance of 150 km between North Cape and Ngurauru Bay slightly north of Whangarei. The nature of the surficial
