Bioaccumulation of PCBs and PBDEs in Fish from a Tropical Lake Chapala, Mexico

open access: yesToxics, 2021
Lake Chapala is the largest natural freshwater reservoir in Mexico and the third largest lake in Latin America. Lakes are often considered the final deposit of polluting materials; they can be concentrated in the organisms that inhabit them, the water ...

How do drying and rewetting events affect nutrient fluxes and bacteria dynamics in subtropical estuarine sediments? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Drying and rewetting occur frequently in coastal marsh sediments due to oscillations of rising and falling tides, and episodic droughts and floods. Similarly, drying events also occur within freshwater systems due to changing precipitation patterns ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Determination of the source location of the 2023 Jishishan M6.2 earthquake in Gansu Province

open access: yes地震科学进展
Based on the P-phase arrival time, we determined the source location of the Jishishan M6.2 earthquake with simulated annealing (SA) method, and quantitatively evaluated the reliability of the results using sample set statistical analysis method.

DIATOM COMPLEXES OF THE IMANDRA LAKE SEDIMENTS IN THE AREA AFFECTED BY HEATED WATER FROM THE KOLA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2015
Diatom assemblages in Lake Imandra sediments (Kola Peninsula) were investigated in the area affected by heated discharges from the Kola NPP. Diatoms responses to the environmental changes were analyzed; the main stages in the lake ecosystem development ...

Transient Electromagnetic (TEM) Surveys as a First Approach for Characterizing a Regional Aquifer: The Case of the Saint-Narcisse Moraine, Quebec, Canada

open access: yesGeosciences, 2021
Geological contexts that lack minimal stratigraphic and piezometric information can be challenging to produce an initial hydrogeological map in remote territories.

Exhumation of the Sierra de Cameros (Iberian Range, Spain): constraints from low-temperature thermochronology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present new fission-track and (U–Th)/He data from apatite and zircon in order to reconstruct the exhumation of the Sierra de Cameros, in the northwestern part of Iberian Range, Spain. Zircon fission-track ages from samples from the depocentre of the

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
