Seed dormancy and germination

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2002
Seed dormancy and germination are complex adaptive traits of higher plants that are influenced by a large number of genes and environmental factors. Studies of genetics and physiology have shown the important roles of the plant hormones abscisic acid and gibberellin in the regulation of dormancy and germination.

Effect of Penicillin on Seed Germination

Science, 1946
The substances present in therapeutic penicillin which cause inhibition of germination and root growth are represented by the indole-3-acetic acid type of compound. Since this and phenylacetic acid were known to be present in the penicillin tested, it is concluded that they are responsible for the inhibition activity against seeds.

Factors affecting germination in seeds and seed germination practices

2023

Seeds and Germination

1998
The seed is the means by which a plant reproduces and multiplies, and which allows it to persist through adverse conditions. Inside a protective seed coat, it consists of an embryo together with nutrient reserves, and which support the growth of the embryo until the seedling is able to carry out photosynthesis and obtain nutrients from the soil via the

The Seed: Germination

1984
Knowledge of the mature seed and its germination is of importance in the study of seed formation. Indeed, embryogeny and germination are extensions of each other separated by a period of relative metabolic inactivity called quiescence, and are essentially different phases of the continuing process of embryo growth and development. Obviously, the nature
