Observations from the Kentucky Corn Yield Contest reveal mid‐ to late‐season weather, early planting, and planting population drive high corn yield

open access: yesCrop, Forage &Turfgrass Management, Volume 12, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract Corn (Zea mays L.) is the most valuable row crop on a land area basis in Kentucky. Understanding the effects of management practices employed by farmers in high‐yielding corn fields in Kentucky is essential for identifying both challenges and opportunities in corn production.

Genomic characterization of a MAGIC population containing introgressions from four tetraploid Gossypium species

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 4, December 2026.
Abstract One strategy for increasing the genetic diversity of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) involves the introgression of beneficial alleles from related and wild tetraploid species. Progress in this area has been limited due to undesirable outcomes associated with whole genome interspecific hybridization. To minimize genetic influences from other

Interpreting Non‐Linear Compaction Mechanics of Expansive Soils Using Reliability Calibrated Framework

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
This study introduces a reliability‐calibrated machine learning framework to predict the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of heterogeneous soils. By integrating 15 algorithms with conformal prediction, the models deliver accurate compaction estimates alongside rigorous, distribution‐free 90% confidence intervals.

ER Stress Regulates HIV Tat and Alcohol‐Induced NLRP6 Activation in Astrocytes

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2026.
HIV Tat and ethanol synergistically induce ER stress in astrocytes, activating an ER stress‐NLRP6 inflammasome axis that drives caspase‐1 activation and IL‐1β/IL‐18 release. Targeting ER stress or NLRP6 effectively suppresses astrocytic neuroinflammation, identifying a novel therapeutic pathway for alcohol‐exacerbated NeuroHIV.
