Cyclin B (CYCB) is a regulatory subunit of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK), the concentration of which fluctuates to regulate cell cycle progression. Extensive studies have been performed on cyclins in numerous species, yet the evolutionary relationships ...

Seed predators exert selection on the subindividual variation of seed size
AbstractSubindividual variation among repeated organs in plants constitutes an overlooked level of variation in phenotypic selection studies, despite being a major component of phenotypic variation. Animals that interact with plants could be selective agents on subindividual variation.

Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

MOLECULAR CONTROL OF SEED SIZE
Seed derive from fertilized ovules and they constitute complex structures formed by three different parts: the seed coat, and the fertilization products, the endosperm and the embryo. During my Ph.D. I analyzed the role of MADS-domain transcription factor SEEDSTICK (STK) during the development of the seed coat in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana.
