SELECTION METHODS FOR SEEDLING VIGOR IN BIRDSFOOT TREFOIL
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1971In 1969, 72 large-seeded lines derived through open pollination were used to establish a seedling vigor test upon which three selection schemes were imposed. First, the best 16 lines were identified and their maternal parents intercrossed to form a selection-by-genotype group.

SELECTION FOR IMPROVED SEEDLING VIGOR IN RUSSIAN WILD RYEGRASS
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1984Seedling emergence of 30 open-pollinated progeny lines of Russian wild ryegrass (Psathyrostachys juncea (Fisch.) Nevski. Syn: Elymus junceus Fisch.) ranging in seed weight from 2.1 to 4.5 mg/seed was evaluated in laboratory and greenhouse tests and compared to stand establishment capability in the field.

A NONDESTRUCTIVE TECHNIQUE FOR MEASURING SEEDLING VIGOR IN WHEAT
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1977A nondestructive method of screening for seedling vigor is described. The technique involves the measurement of green shoot weight and the subsequent regeneration of the plants from transplanted shoots or from the seedling base. The method is quick and can be adapted to breeding programs.

Molecular dissection of seedling-vigor and associated physiological traits in rice
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2002seedling-vigor is important for crop establishment. There have been reported quantitative trait locus (QTL) analyses on seedling-vigor related morphological traits. However, physiological understanding of these detected QTLs is rather limited. In this study, we employed a recombinant inbred population to detect QTLs for seedling-vigor traits and ...

Imbibition temperatures affect bitterbrush seed dormancy and seedling vigor
Journal of Arid Environments, 1999Abstract Bitterbrush first-year seedling survival is low. To determine whether imbibition temperatures affected seedling vigor, I compared post-imbibition seed weight, germination, and early growth among untreated, thiourea-treated, and cool-moist-treated seeds from three collections.

Role of Growing Media on Seedling Vigor of Tomato
Environment and EcologyRobust seedlings are the most important inputs for getting a good crop with high yield and quality. Tomato seedlings raised in plugtrays are considered better than those raised in conventional nursery, but the media on which they are raised determine the seedling vigor and quality.
