From Loop Groups to 2-Groups [PDF]
We describe an interesting relation between Lie 2-algebras, the Kac-Moody central extensions of loop groups, and the group String(n). A Lie 2-algebra is a categorified version of a Lie algebra where the Jacobi identity holds up to a natural isomorphism ...

Toward a Galois theory of the integers over the sphere spectrum
Recent work in higher algebra allows the reinterpretation of a classical description of the Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum $H\mathbb{Z}$ as a Thom spectrum, in terms of a kind of derived Galois theory. This essentially expository talk summarizes some of this

Topological K‐theory of quasi‐BPS categories for Higgs bundles
Abstract In a previous paper, we introduced quasi‐BPS categories for moduli stacks of semistable Higgs bundles. Under a certain condition on the rank, Euler characteristic, and weight, the quasi‐BPS categories (called BPS in this case) are noncommutative analogues of Hitchin integrable systems.

Probabilistic verification in mechanism design
We introduce a model of probabilistic verification in mechanism design. The principal elicits a message from the agent and then selects a test to give the agent. The agent's true type determines the probability with which he can pass each test. We characterize whether each type has an associated test that best screens out all other types.

Homotopy limits of model categories and more general homotopy theories
Generalizing a definition of homotopy fiber products of model categories, we give a definition of the homotopy limit of a diagram of left Quillen functors between model categories.

Central Extensions of Smooth 2-Groups and a Finite-Dimensional String 2-Group
We provide a model of the String group as a central extension of finite-dimensional 2-groups in the bicategory of Lie groupoids, left-principal bibundles, and bibundle maps.

Holomorphic field theories and higher algebra
Abstract Aimed at complex geometers and representation theorists, this survey explores higher dimensional analogs of the rich interplay between Riemann surfaces, Virasoro and Kac‐Moody Lie algebras, and conformal blocks. We introduce a panoply of examples from physics — field theories that are holomorphic in nature, such as holomorphic Chern‐Simons ...

Representations of the homotopy surface category of a simply connected space
We introduce the homotopy surface category of a space which generalizes the 1+1-dimensional cobordism category of circles and surfaces to the situation where one introduces a background space.

The conjugacy problem for ascending HNN‐extensions of free groups
Abstract We give an algorithm to solve the Conjugacy Problem for ascending HNN‐extensions of free groups. To do this, we give algorithms to solve certain problems on dynamics of free group endomorphisms.

Global and microlocal aspects of Dirac operators: Propagators and Hadamard states
Abstract We propose a geometric approach to construct the Cauchy evolution operator for the Lorentzian Dirac operator on Cauchy‐compact globally hyperbolic 4‐manifolds. We realize the Cauchy evolution operator as the sum of two invariantly defined oscillatory integrals—the positive and negative Dirac propagators—global in space and in time, with ...
