Simulation of segmented mirror telescope and calculating asphericity of segmented mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
To determine parameters of the Segmented Mirror Telescope is quite essential for the design, manufacture, testing and construct of the telescope system, especially the F-number parameters and curvature radius of the primary mirror, as well as the asphericity.

Segmented bimorph deformable mirror

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1989
The efficient low-voltage bending properties of PZT bimorph wafers have been combined with conventional microelectronics techniques to produce a 37-hex-faceted deformable mirror 23 mm in diameter and 1 mm thick. Despite the high ratio of diameter to thickness, at 633 nm an overall flatness of better than one-half wave peak-to-valley (PV) and one-tenth ...

Pyramid sensor for segmented mirror alignment

Optics Letters, 2005
We report what is to our knowledge the first laboratory experiment that shows the use of a pyramid wavefront sensor to cophase and align segmented mirrors having three degrees of freedom per segment, i.e., piston, tip, and tilt. In the laboratory the iterative alignment procedure reached a wavefront residual error of about 10 nm. The residual error was

Giant segmented mirror telescope

Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2002
AURA has answered the call of the astronomy decadal review committee for creation of a 30-meter Giant Segmented Mirror Telescope by forming a New Initiatives Office (NIO). One of the NIO activities in the past year has been to develop a GSMT point design as a tool that serves several purposes, including: exploring the dependence of scientific ...

Fresnel phasing of segmented mirror telescopes

Applied Optics, 2011
Shack-Hartmann (S-H) phasing of segmented telescopes is based upon a physical optics generalization of the geometrical optics Shack-Hartmann test, in which each S-H lenslet straddles an intersegment edge. For the extremely large segmented telescopes currently in the design stages, one is led naturally to very large pupil demagnifications for the S-H ...

Design and analysis of segmented-mirror primary mirror system

Optik, 2021
Abstract with the development of space exploration, the resolution of optical system is required to be higher and higher. According to the Rayleigh criterion, the resolution of the optical system is directly proportional to the aperture. However, due to the influence of processing capacity and size of the rocket fairing, it is difficult to achieve ...

Segmented mirror polishing experiment

Applied Optics, 1982
An experiment was conducted to demonstrate the capability of polishing segmented mirrors. A mirror segment was figured with the computer controlled polisher using special software and tooling. This process rapidly reduced surface figure errors and produced a good figure to the segment's edges.

Diffraction effects from giant segmented-mirror telescopes

Applied Optics, 2003
Ultrahigh contrast imaging with giant segmented-mirror telescopes will involve light levels of order 10(-6) times that of the central diffraction spike or less. At these levels it is important to quantify accurately various diffraction effects, including segmentation geometry, intersegment gaps, obscuration by the secondary mirror and its supports, and

ASM: scaled down active segmented mirror developed to simulate a segmented primary mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
The Active Segmented Mirror is a key subsystem of the Active Phasing Experiment. The size of the ASM is 154 mm in diameter. It will be used to test new types of phasing sensors recently developed within the ELT design study supported by the European Union.

Segmented-mirror phased-array lasers

Applied Physics Letters, 1987
A scheme for phase-locked laser arrays in both one- and two-dimensional configurations is discussed. The scheme can be applied to any laser and its validity has been proved for the case of a pulsed neodimium laser.
