Design and Parameter Identification for a Positioning Platform with a Large Stroke and High Precision for Segmented Mirrors [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
An active optical system with three segmented mirrors was proposed to verify the co-focus and co-phase progress. In this system, a kind of large-stroke and high-precision parallel positioning platform was specially developed to help support the mirrors ...

Design and Error Analysis of an Optical Measurement System for the Wavefront of Large-Aperture Segmented Mirror [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
To better meet the wavefront measurement requirements for large-aperture segmented mirrors after in-orbit deployment, this paper designs a measurement system based on an optical camera and targets.

Large sparse aperture telescope wavefront sensing and control via pretrained neural network with attention module [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The ability to detect pistons with high accuracy over a wide range is paramount to the co-phasing of sparse aperture optical systems. This paper proposes a global piston error modulation method for sparse aperture mirrors based on convolutional neural ...

Investigation into the Co-Phase Detection Methodology for Segmented Plane Mirrors Utilizing Grazing Incidence Interferometry [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
Segmented plane mirrors constitute a crucial component in the self-aligned detection process for large-aperture space optical imaging systems. Surface shape errors inherent in segmented plane mirrors primarily manifest as tilt errors and piston errors ...

Design considerations for a highly segmented mirror [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2003
Design issues for a 30-m highly segmented mirror are explored, with emphasis on parametric models of simple, inexpensive segments. A mirror with many small segments offers cost savings through quantity production and permits high-order active and adaptive wave-front corrections.

In-plane effects on segmented-mirror control [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2012
Extremely large optical telescopes are being designed with primary mirrors composed of hundreds of segments. The "out-of-plane" piston, tip, and tilt degrees of freedom of each segment are actively controlled using feedback from relative height measurements between neighboring segments.

Design of freeform mirrors using the concentric rings method

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Through the methodology of optical surface design based on concentric rings, this paper proposes the design of freeform mirrors, initially by employing segmented rings, each of them with different spherical radii of curvature, and then by employing ...

Active Optics and Aberration Correction Technology for Sparse Aperture Segmented Mirrors

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Active optics and aberration correction techniques for sparse aperture segmented mirrors are studied. A finite element model of the sparse aperture segmented mirror was established, and a multi-aperture aberration polynomial was derived. According to the

Polarimetric characterization of segmented mirrors

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2022
We study the impact of the loss of axial symmetry around the optical axis on the polarimetric properties of a telescope with a segmented primary mirror when each segment is present in a different aging stage. The different oxidation stage of each segment as it is substituted in time leads to nonnegligible cross-talk terms.
