Planning Perspectives, 1996Much of the literature on segregation is underlain by an implicit model which argues that groups start highly segregated in inner city locations and disperse over time. Parallel and related to this spatial pattern is the social process of assimilation. Groups start highly segregated and unassimilated and become dispersed and assimilated over time.

Six experiments investigated the preattentive segregation of line-like patterns composed of discrete elements in a background of distractors. The results indicate that other factors in addition to spatial density influence line segregation. Edge alignment, edge length and principal axis orientation also affect line segregation.

Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1992Abstract The grain boundary B content of high-purity Ni-24 at.% Al alloys containing 0.048, 0.144, 0.240 and 0.480 at.% B (100, 300, 500, 1000 ppm mass) has been determined for samples aged from 1323 to 873 K for sufficient times to attain equilibrium. The B content was derived from Auger electron spectra of the intergranular fracture facets.
