Stochastic Response-Based Optimization of a Bilinear ECD Model for Seismic Analysis

open access: yesBuildings
The eddy current damper (ECD), as a high-performance seismic protection device, has been increasingly applied in the field of civil engineering. However, most existing finite element software lacks a nonlinear constitutive model for this type of damper ...

Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Sensitivity of dynamic behaviour of the FE model: Case study for the ignalina NPP reactor building

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2008
The 3D thin‐walled finite element model of Ignalina NPP Unit 2 reactor building was developed aimed at the evaluation of the global dynamic behaviour with a focus on the seismic response.

Thermal‐induced fracture evolution and acoustic signature of Beishan granite: Insights into tensile strength of barrier system for high‐level radioactive waste disposal

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.

Carbon Dots: An Emerging Frontier for Green and Sustainable Civil Engineering Materials

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Traditional civil engineering materials (CE materials) are usually involved with high‐energy consumption during manufacturing, significant maintenance costs, and substantial environmental impacts throughout their life cycles. The progress of nanotechnology is catalyzing a green and sustainable transformation within the field.

Seismic Behavior of Rock-Filled Concrete Dam Compared with Conventional Vibrating Concrete Dam Using Finite Element Method

open access: yesInfrastructures
A rock-filled concrete (RFC) dam is an original dam construction technology invented in China nearly 20 years ago. The technology has been continuously improved and innovated upon, and the accumulated rich practical experience gradually formed a complete

For the Few, Not the Many: Tracing the Residualist and Compensatory Nature of British Energy Support

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drawing on extensive documentary analysis, this article traces the evolution of British energy policy support since World War II. It analyses shifts in policy design through two interpretive lenses: eligibility (residualist vs. universalist) and function (compensatory vs. preventive).

The EU's Strategy for Sustainability: A Landmark Turn With the European Green Deal?

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While the European Green Deal (EGD) has been widely recognized as a milestone in the EU's sustainability strategy, scholars disagree on the nature of the policy change it represents. Critics highlight its limited social and environmental ambitions, despite its portrayal as a “man on the moon” moment.
