Feasibility of using neural networks to obtain simplified capacity curves for seismic assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The selection of a given method for the seismic vulnerability assessment of buildings is mostly dependent on the scale of the analysis. Results obtained in large-scale studies are usually less accurate than the ones obtained in small-scale studies.

Hyperledger Fabric for the (digitalized) lifecycle of construction products: Applied review on fastening technology

open access: yesCivil Engineering Design, Volume 7, Issue 1, Page 9-22, March 2025.
Abstract Blockchain technology is a digital decentralized data ledger recording transactions in an encrypted format. Its implementation can potentially hold significant advantages for the built environment, particularly in manufacturing and building product usage aligned with Building Information Modeling (BIM). This paradigm shift toward decentralized

Seismic analysis of aircraft accidents

open access: yesNatural Science, 2013
Seismic records from Finnish and Swedish stations were analyzed for a study of two aircraft accidents in Finland and Sweden. A Hornet F-18 fighter crashed in central Finland, and analysis of recorded impact signals from 7 nearby seismic stations yielded in a crash location only 4 km in error.

Modern and ancient tidal sedimentary systems in the era of energy transition: Introduction to the special volume of The Depositional Record

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
This volume examines tidal sedimentary systems through 11 articles, spanning ancient and modern tidalites, technological advances and implications for human management. Highlighting contributions from Tidalites 2022 and beyond, it underscores tidalites' significance in sedimentology, environmental forecasting and energy transition, reflecting decades ...

Seismic Imaging and Seismicity Analysis in Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Region [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geophysics, 2011
In this study a new tomographic method is applied to over 43,400 high-quality absolute direct P arrival times and 200,660 relative P arrival times to determine detailed 3D crustal velocity structures as well as the absolute and relative hypocenter parameters of 2809 seismic events under the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan region.

COMPILATION OF ACTIVE FAULT DATA IN PORTUGAL FOR USE IN SEISMIC HAZARD ANALYSIS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To estimate where future earthquakes are likely to occur, it is essential to combine information about past earthquakes with knowledge about the location and seismogenic properties of active faults.

Fifty years of research on the Joulters ooid sandbody—Impact on carbonate sedimentology and diagenesis and lessons learned from an invaluable analogue

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The Joulters ooid sandbody of northern Great Bahama Bank is a vast expanse of muddy ooid sands partly rimmed by clean ooid sands and formed into a relatively thick layer of significant extent. Knowledge of the development of depositional and diagenetic patterns in the Joulters example has forwarded our general understanding of carbonate sedimentology ...

Dynamics of the Oso-Steelhead landslide from broadband seismic analysis

open access: yes, 2015
. We carry out a combined analysis of the short- and long-period seismic signals generated by the devastating Oso-Steelhead landslide that occurred on 22 March 2014. The seismic records show that the Oso-Steelhead landslide was not a single slope failure,

Water pathways and ancient lakes: Flowing towards new models to unravel the past

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Significant progress has been made in understanding lake basin evolution through climatic and tectonic changes using sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, geochemistry, hydrology and watershed characteristics to interpret three main lake basin types: overfilled, balanced‐fill and underfilled, including fluvio‐lacustrine systems.
