Seismic interference noise attenuation

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2004, 2004
Summary Attenuation of seismic interference noise that overpowers seismic reflections can be achieved by making use of wellknown f-x prediction filters and the non-predictability of interfering noise from shot to shot.

Friction and seismic attenuation in rocks

Nature, 1979
Precise experimental results, combined with theoretical predictions, indicate that seismic energy loss caused by grain boundary friction is important only at low confining pressure and at strains greater than about 10-6. Since these conditions are generally not encountered in seismology, frictional attenuation is not importantin situ.

Seismic Attenuation In The Delaware Basin

Proceedings, 2017
Induced seismicity in Delaware Basin (West Texas and New Mexico, USA) has recently gained attention of the geoscience community. The knowledge about seismic attenuation in this sedimentary basin is poor. The peak frequency method was applied to the selected seismic events with high signal-to-noise ratio from the Delaware Basin to estimate effective ...

A Brief Overview on Seismic Attenuation

81st EAGE Conference and Exhibition 2019 Workshop Programme, 2019
Seismic waves decay due to geometrical spreading (in 2D and 3D) and scattering (energy is conserved), and anelastic -- or intrinsic -- attenuation (energy is lost to heat). Amplitude decay in the last two cases is accompanied with wave-velocity dispersion, by which each Fourier component of the signal travels with a different phase velocity (Kramers ...

The attenuation of seismic intensity in Italy

2005
Seismic intensity is, by definition, an index for the classification of the severity of earthquake effects observed in a settlement. However the experience of many decades of its use within functional relations with other parametric quantities have shown that it represents a quite reliable estimator of ground motion amplitude and that it can be ...
