Empirical predictive model for seismic damage of historical churches
Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, 2020Generally, strong seismic events cause serious damage to cultural heritage, especially in ancient churches characterized by a high vulnerability due to the intrinsic peculiarities of their structural systems which are not able to develop efficient resisting mechanisms.

Modelling Seismic Damage Accumulation and Recovery in Aftershock Sequences
Proceedings of the 31st European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL 2021), 2021Civil structures’ life-cycle may entail performance degradation, due to point-in-time events such as earthquakes and/or continuous aging, as well as the enforcement of maintenance and/or retrofitting policies. The current performance-based approach to the life-cycle analysis requires consistent modelling of uncertainty involved in the degradation and ...

Markovian modeling of seismic damage accumulation
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2015SummaryAnalysis of civil structures at the scale of life‐cycle requires stochastic modeling of degradation. Phenomena causing structures to degrade are typically categorized as aging and point‐in‐time overloads. Earthquake effects are the members of the latter category this study deals with in the framework of performance‐based earthquake engineering ...

Component Seismic Damage Model for SRHSHPC Joints
Key Engineering Materials, 2009The deficiency of present damage model is generalized by studying existing references. The mechanical properties of steel reinforced high strength and high performance concrete (SRHSHPC) members under monotonic loading, including the capacity of ultimate deformation, strength, stiffness, etc. are analyzed after the different number of cycles.

Seismic damage assessment using linear models
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 1990The problem of earthquake damage assessment is defined. The role of the analysis of strong motion records in damage assessment codes based on expert systems is pointed out. The behavior of some damage indices proposed in the literature is studied using numerical simulations.

Direct loss model for seismically damaged structures
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2012SUMMARYLoss ratio, which is the ratio of the repair cost to the total replacement cost, is an effective parameter for representing structural and nonstructural damage caused by earthquakes. A probabilistic loss estimation framework is first presented that directly relates hazard to response and hence to losses.

A statistical damage model with implications for precursory seismicity
Acta Geophysica, 2011Acoustic emissions prior to rupture indicate precursory damage. Laboratory studies of frictional sliding on model faults feature accelerating rates of acoustic emissions prior to rupture. Precursory seismic emissions are not generally observed prior to earthquakes. To address the problem of precursory damage, we consider failure in a fiber-bundle model.

Seismic characterisation of fault damage in 3D using mechanical and seismic modelling
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2016Abstract Although typically interpreted as 2D surfaces, faults are 3D narrow zones of highly and heterogeneously deformed rocks with petrophysical properties differing from the host rock. Fault zones have been extensively studied in outcrop, but in the subsurface they are barely explored, mainly because they are at the limit of seismic resolution and
