Seismic vulnerability assessment of clustered buildings in the historical center of timisoara: fragility curves for in-plane local mechanisms of collapse [PDF]
The historical center of Timisoara, in Romania, is composed by clustered masonry buildings. The characteristics of these structural units were identified in a stock of 245 buildings, subdividing them into a set of typologies.

The EU's Strategy for Sustainability: A Landmark Turn With the European Green Deal?
ABSTRACT While the European Green Deal (EGD) has been widely recognized as a milestone in the EU's sustainability strategy, scholars disagree on the nature of the policy change it represents. Critics highlight its limited social and environmental ambitions, despite its portrayal as a “man on the moon” moment.

A new methodology of the development of seismic fragility curves
There are continuous efforts to mitigate structural losses from earthquakes and manage risk through seismic risk assessment; seismic fragility curves are widely accepted as an essential tool of such efforts.

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Seismic component fragility data base for IPEEE [PDF]
Seismic probabilistic risk assessment or a seismic margin study will require a reliable data base of seismic fragility of various equipment classes. Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has selected a group of equipment and generically evaluated the ...

ABSTRACT This paper illustrates opportunities for the use of simulated ground motions in seismic performance assessment – from seismic hazard, ground‐motion selection, response history analysis, and seismic demand hazard calculation. The illustration is through a comparative analysis with the conventional alternative of observed ground motions.

Seismic Meta‐Fragility Functions
ABSTRACT Fragility functions make for one of the three key components of probabilistic seismic risk analysis, along with hazard and consequence and/or exposure models. They are, in principle, construction‐specific; however, risk analysis is more often performed on a larger (e.g., regional) scale. In this case, so‐called typological fragility curves are

Seismic Structural Reliability by Time‐Variant Fragility Functions
ABSTRACT The seismic vulnerability of aging structures is often represented in the form of fragility curves that vary with time. On one hand, each of these functions is intended to apply if the earthquake hits at the time the fragility refers to. On the other hand, performance‐based earthquake engineering (PBEE) resources to classical probabilistic ...

Multi‐Hazard Shaking‐Tsunami Fatality Risk Estimation for Coastal Communities
ABSTRACT This study develops a multi‐hazard fatality risk model for a coastal community (Tofino) on Vancouver Island, Canada, subjected to earthquake‐tsunami threats from the Cascadia subduction megathrust events. The model incorporates variable population distributions and uncertain fatality rate models, in addition to other key model components, such
