High‐Resolution 3‐D Lithospheric Structure of the Subducting Carnegie Ridge and the Ecuadorian Margin Imaged From Teleseismic Receiver Functions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The Ecuadorian margin is a forearc‐arc system shaped by oceanic terrane accretion and Carnegie Ridge subduction, yet the accretion mechanism and ridge subduction extent remain poorly constrained. Using teleseismic P‐wave receiver functions from dense seismic arrays, we image velocity discontinuities within the overriding plate and subducting ...

Prototyping the Seismogenic Fault Injection Test (SFIT)

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The treatment of induced seismicity risk would benefit from a small, standardized injection test that probes the seismic response to fluid injection—to optimally improve earthquake forecasts before a larger injection commences. To accomplish this goal, we propose a “model differencing” framework: this framework optimizes injection protocols by

Double Trouble: Two Active Magma Reservoirs Identified at Masaya Volcano, Nicaragua, Using Satellite Geodesy

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract We analyze and model ground deformation at Masaya volcano, Nicaragua, using Sentinel‐1 Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series spanning January 2018–February 2024. Time series show the Masaya Central Reservoir (MCR) experienced ∼3 cm of line of sight (LOS) displacement away from the satellite north of the Santiago crater ...

Tectonic Tremor Reveals Slow Deformation Along the Antarctic–South American Subduction Zone

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The Antarctic–South American subduction zone is among the least explored convergent margins and lacks documented large interplate earthquakes despite ongoing convergence. Here we report the discovery of tectonic tremor along this plate boundary using continuous seismic data.
