Parametric study and surface morphology analysis of electron beam selective melting

Rapid Prototyping Journal, 2018
Purpose This paper aims to study the effect of processing parameters and the fundamental mechanism of surface morphologies during electron beam selective melting. Design/methodology/approach From the powder-scale level, first, the discrete element method is used to obtain the powder bed distribution that is comparable with the practical condition ...

Archival information storage by selective electron beam melting of structured targets

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B: Microelectronics Processing and Phenomena, 1987
We demonstrate archival information storage by electron beam melting of selected elements within a two dimensional array of gold columns. The individual columns were 60 nm in diameter, 270 nm in height, and spaced on 130 nm centers. These columns could be selectively melted with a 40 nm diam, 175 nA, 7 kV electron beam in times less than 60 ns.

Observation and Numerical Simulation of Melt Pool Dynamic and Beam Powder Interaction During Selective Electron Beam Melting

2012
Selective electron beam melting (SEBM) is an additive manufacturing method used to produce complex parts in a layer-by-layer process utilizing Ti6Al4V powder. To improve the very good properties of built parts even more and to use the full capacity of the process, the fundamental understanding of the beam powder interaction is of essential relevance ...

Basics of selective electron beam melting of iron aluminides

2021
The Additive Manufacturing process (AM) of Selective Electron Beam Melting (SEBM) is, due to its near-net shape character, particularly suitable for materials with a poor machinability, such as iron aluminides. These materials, which belong to the class of intermetallic phases, are assigned a high potential for high-temperature applications. The reason

In vivo performance of selective electron beam‐melted Ti‐6Al‐4V structures

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2009
AbstractHighly porous titanium structures are widely used for maxillofacial and orthopedic surgery because of their excellent mechanical properties similar to those of human bone and their facilitation of bone ingrowth. In contrast to common methods, the generation of porous titaniumproducts by selective electron beam melting (SEBM), an additive ...

Simulation of Selective Electron Beam Melting Processes

2011
