Preparation, characterisation and application of naturally derived polar lipids through lipolysis : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Food Technology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Monoglycerides are lipid based emulsifiers extensively used for their broad technical function in the food industry. Commercial monoglycerides are generally manufactured through chemical synthesis; however, lipolysis of triglycerides by lipase enzyme ...

Enhanced Rheological and Filtration Performance of Drilling Fluids Using Fe3O4/Saponin/Cu(II) Nanocomposites: Synthesis, Characterization, and Application

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drilling fluids used in high‐performance well operations often struggle to maintain rheological stability, colloidal dispersion, and filtration control under harsh downhole conditions. This study engineered a multifunctional Fe3O4@Saponin/Cu(II) nanocomposite to address these challenges.

Green Fuel Combustion Synthesis of CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver‐doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ag/CeO2 NPs) were synthesized using Ricinus communis seed extract as a bio‐derived fuel in a solution combustion method. The combustion reaction, carried out at 450°C with AgNO3 and (NH4)2[Ce (NO3)6] as metal precursors, produced CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 NPs.

Prions, protein homeostasis, and phenotypic diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Prions are fascinating but often misunderstood protein aggregation phenomena. The traditional association of the mammalian prion protein with disease has overshadowed a potentially more interesting attribute of prions: their ability to create protein ...

Chlorella vulgaris biorefineries: sustainable biofuels and high‐value carbon capture

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Global reliance on fossil fuels has created urgent economic and environmental challenges, yet large‐scale use of algal biomass remains limited by production costs. Industrial scaling is constrained by inefficient harvesting and the technical challenges of processing recalcitrant cell walls.

Plasmid-mediate transfer of FLO-1 into industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae PE-2 strain creates a strain useful for repeat-batch fermentations involving flocculation-sedimentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The flocculation gene FLO1 was transferred into the robust industrial strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae PE-2 by the lithium acetate method. The recombinant strain showed a fermentation performance similar to that of the parental strain.

Mechanistic Understanding of the Solid Product in O2‐Involved Li‐CO2 Batteries

open access: yesBattery Energy, Volume 4, Issue 2, March 2025.
The solid products Li2CO3 significantly affect battery performance, primarily in terms of its deposition, reaction pathways, and growth mechanisms. A mechanistic understanding of the Li2CO3 behavior can spearhead advanced O2‐involved Li‐CO2 batteries.

Alcohol production from cheese whey permeate using genetically modified flocculent yeast cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Alcoholic fermentation of cheese whey permeate was investigated using a recombinant flocculating Saccharomyces cerevisiae, expressing the LAC4 (coding for β-galactosidase) and LAC12 (coding for lactose permease) genes of Kluyveromyces marxianus ...

A model of the selective flocculation process

open access: yesJournal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1991
Abstract In the selective flocculation process, selectivity exhibited during single mineral tests is often lost when separation of mixed minerals is attempted. Recently, heteroflocculation has been shown to be another major cause of loss in selectivity. A mathematical model with predictive capabilities to minimize heteroflocculation is discussed, and
