Metabolism of Hydrogen Selenide and Methylated Selenides
1979Inorganic forms of selenium are readily metabolized to a variety of or-ganoselenium compounds in microorganisms, plants, and animals. The metabolism of selenium may either enhance or reduce the biological activity of this element. Nutritionally active inorganic selenium compounds, such as sodium selenite or sodium selenate, can be converted to ...

Semiconductor waveguide fabrication for photonics applications is usually performed in a planar geometry. However, over the past decade a new field of semiconductor-based optical fiber devices has emerged. The drawing of soft chalcogenide semiconductor glasses together with low melting point metals allows for meters-long distributed photoconductive ...

Optical gain in gallium selenide and indium selenide
Physica B+C, 1981Abstract The stimulated emission at 80 K from layered single crystals of GaSe and InSe has been studied at high excitation density by means of nitrogen and dye laser, respectively. On both the semiconductors we observe the stimulated emission associated with exciton-exciton scattering.

Acute Hydrogen Selenide Inhalation
Chest, 1980Acute exposure to selenium hydrochloride resulted in severe dyspnea and a pneumomediastinum in a young healthy man. Pulmonary function tests revealed restrictive and obstructive airways disease. Although the patient's pulmonary function slowly improved, subsequent studies revealed persistent impairment.

Thallium selenide infrared detector
Applied Optics, 1977The application of semiconducting thallium selenide for ir detection is described. A responsivity of 10(6) V/W and NEP of the order of 10(-15) W/ radicalHz with a response time of 3 msec can be obtained by operating the detector at 1.5 K.
