Photon-Induced Selenium Vacancies in TiSe2 [PDF]
TiSe2 is a member of transition metal dichalcogenide family of layered van-der-Waals materials that exhibits some distinctive electronic and optical properties. Here, we perform Raman spectroscopy studies on single crystal TiSe2 to investigate photon-induced defects associated with formation of selenium vacancies.

Photo-induced volume changes in selenium. Tight-binding molecular dynamics study [PDF]
Tight-binding molecular dynamics simulations of photo-excitations in small Se clusters (isolated Se$_8$ ring and helical Se chain) and glassy Se networks (containing 162 atoms) were carried out in order to analyse the photo induced instability inside the amorphous selenium.

Selenium deficiency risk predicted to increase under future climate change
Significance The trace element selenium is essential for human health and is required in a narrow dietary concentration range. Insufficient selenium intake has been estimated to affect up to 1 billion people worldwide.

Identifying structural order in Selenium with Near-Edge Spectroscopy [PDF]
We investigate the crystallization of amorphous arsenic-selenium alloys with 0%, 0.5%, 2%, 6%, 10%, and 19% arsenic by atomic concentration using synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy. We identify crystalline order using the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra and correlate this order to changes in features of the X-ray ...

Total energy calculation of high pressure selenium: The origin of incommensurate modulations in Se-IV and the instability of proposed Se-II [PDF]
We present calculation of the high pressure crystal structures in selenium, including rational approximants to the recently reported incommensurate phases. We show how the incommensurate phases can be intuitively explained in terms of imaginary phonon frequencies arising from Kohn anomalies in the putative undistorted phase.

Discovery of Zinc, Selenium, Bromine, and Neodymium Isotopes [PDF]
Currently, thirty-two zinc, thirty-two selenium, twenty-nine bromine and thirty-one neodymium isotopes have been observed and the discovery of these isotopes is discussed here. For each isotope a brief synopsis of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented.

Selenium and outcome in heart failure
Severe deficiency of the essential trace element selenium can cause myocardial dysfunction although the mechanism at cellular level is uncertain. Whether, in clinical practice, moderate selenium deficiency is associated with worse symptoms and outcome in
