Stochastic Response of SDOF Self-Centering System

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2020
As a new type of seismic resisting device, the self-centering system is attractive due to its excellent re-centering capability, but research on such a system under random seismic loadings is quite limited. In this paper, the stochastic response of a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) self-centering system driven by a white noise process is investigated.

Relativism, Self-Centering, and Conceptual Level

Child Development, 1963
Piaget has described a phase of development in middle childhood which he termed "egocentric." At this time (age 6 to 8) the child takes his own point of view as absolute and is unable to assume the point of view of others. In his investigations Piaget employed a series of questions to determine whether the child had a relativistic, as opposed to ...

Self-Centering Film Dividers

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980
One rather effective way to reduce the frictional drag of fluid film journal or thrust bearings, when operating in the turbulent regime, is to introduce a “floating” member dividing the fluid film into two roughly equal parts. The average shear rate is unchanged, but the effective Reynolds number is reduced, with a corresponding reduction in friction ...

Eccentric Sequence of Self-centered Graphs

2021
For a graph G, with v as any vertex, the maximum distance of v to another vertex or node is defined as the eccentricity \(e\left( v \right)\) of the vertex v. Of all the eccentricities, the minimum is the radius, maximum of the eccentricities is the diameter, of graph G.

Self-Centered Beliefs: An Empirical Approach

2012
We perform an experiment designed to assess the accuracy of beliefs about distributions. The beliefs relate to behavior (mobile phone purchasing decisions, hypothetical restaurant choices), attitudes (happiness, politics) and observable characteristics (height, weight) and are typically formed through real world experiences.
