Initial stiffness of self-centering systems and application to self-centering-beam moment-frames
Engineering Structures, 2020Abstract There has been considerable development of self-centering seismic force resisting systems in the past few decades, many of which incorporate gap opening mechanisms. Experiments on these self-centering systems often result in an initial stiffness that is less than the predicted theoretical stiffness.

Disassembly of Bipolar Cup with Self-Centering System
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2004Disassembly of bipolar cups with a self-centering system occurred in six patients (seven hips; five women, one man) and the cause of the failure was evaluated. The mean age of the patients at the time of arthroplasty was 49.7 years (range, 27-85 years), and mean weight was 48.4 kg (range, 37-65 kg).

Self-centering head holder system for small animal stereotaxy
Brain Research Bulletin, 1979Abstract MARCHAND, E. R. AND J. N. RILEY. Self-centering head holder system for small animal stereotaxy . BRAIN RES. BULL. 4 (1) 141–143, 1979.—Plans are given for the construction of a small animal head holder and associated self-centering device which may be attached to a stereotaxic instrument. The system offers accuracy with ease of operation.

First-passage failure of randomly excited self-centering system
International Journal of Dynamics and Control, 2021Subjected to stochastic seismic and/or strong wind loads, the self-centering structures may undergo remarkable random oscillations which may deteriorate the operating performance or even induce complete failure. This paper aims to investigate the first-passage failure of self-centering systems under random excitation.

Input energy spectra for self-centering SDOF systems
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2019Abstract This study proposes a procedure for determining design input energy spectra for self-centering single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems using a characteristic flag-shaped hysteretic model. The procedure for determining design input energy spectra considers the influence of ground motion factors, hysteretic models, damping ratios, and ...

Seismic-resistant self-centering rocking core system
Engineering Structures, 2015Abstract Conventional braced frame systems exhibit limited drift capacity before brace buckling and associated damage leads to strength and stiffness degradation. A self-centering rocking core (SC-RC) system is being developed to provide significant drift capacity while limiting damage and residual drift. The SC-RC system consists of beams, columns,

Hysteretic energy demand for self-centering SDOF systems
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2019Abstract The objective of this study is to introduce a procedure for determining the hysteretic energy demand for self-centering single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems with typical flag-shaped hysteretic models considering the influences of the structural characteristics.

Design and Analysis of Buildings with Fluidic Self-Centering Systems
Journal of Structural Engineering, 2016AbstractDesign and analysis procedures for buildings with fluidic self-centering systems are presented and evaluated. The design procedures parallel those for buildings with damping systems in Chapter 18 of the ASCE 7 Standard. The evaluation of the procedures is based on the design and nonlinear response history analysis of 3- and 6- story steel ...

DETAILED COMPONENT MODELLING OF A SELF-CENTERING ENERGY DISSIPATIVE BRACE SYSTEM
Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (COMPDYN 2013), 2014The self-centering energy-dissipative (SCED) brace is a new steel bracing member that provides damping to a structure and a re-centering capability, reducing or eliminating residual building deformations after major seismic events. Recently, the SCED concept has been extended through the design and construction of a new enhanced-elongation telescoping ...
