The aim of this study was to compare the fecundity and fertility of B. glabrata and B. straminea by cross- and self-fertilization. To attain this objective, laboratory-raised strains of B. glabrata and B. straminea were used.

PARASITES AND THE EVOLUTION OF SELF-FERTILIZATION [PDF]
Assuming all else is equal, an allele for selfing should spread when rare in an outcrossing population and rapidly reach fixation. Such an allele will not spread, however, if self-fertilization results in inbreeding depression so severe that the fitness of selfed offspring is less that half that of outcrossed offspring.

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Bulk and Surface Dual‐Modification for Stabilizing RuO2 Anode in 2 A cm−2 PEMWE Operation
The high‐current‐density stability of the RuO2‐based anode in PEMWE could be taken care of by a bulk and surface dual modification strategy developed in this work, where Cr doping modulates the Ru valence state in the bulk phase, suppressing Ru overoxidation, whereas Si modification stabilizes the reaction interface by inhibiting catalyst ...

Detecting selection along environmental gradients: analysis of eight methods and their effectiveness for outbreeding and selfing populations : [W633] [PDF]
Thanks to genome-scale diversity data, present-day studies can provide a detailed view of how natural and cultivated species adapt to their environment and particularly to environmental gradients.

Sex determination in mythology and history [PDF]
The history of ideas on how the sexes became divided spans at least three thousand years. The biblical account of the origin of Eve, and the opinions of the philosophers of classical Greece, have unexpected bearings on present-day ideas.

Inactivation of Plasmodium falciparum in whole blood by riboflavin plus irradiation.
BACKGROUND: Malaria parasites are frequently transmitted by unscreened blood transfusions in Africa. Pathogen reduction methods in whole blood would thus greatly improve blood safety.
