Dealing With Speckle Effects in Self-Mixing Interferometry Measurements

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2013
An analysis of speckle effects and the techniques to overcome them in self-mixing interferometry signals is presented. We characterize the effect of surface roughness and laser spot size on the speckle modulation of the signal, and then propose two simple experimental approaches to overcome the amplitude fading induced by the speckle effect. Unlike the

Evaluation of Digital Technologies for Home‐Based Assessment in People With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Digital technologies hold promise for transforming healthcare by enhancing personalized treatments and offer valuable opportunities to improve patient care. Here, we evaluated several novel, self‐administered, home‐based, digital endpoints for their association with corresponding conventional standard clinical measures (primary) in ...

Self-Mixing Interferometry With Terahertz Quantum Cascade Lasers

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2013
Terahertz frequency quantum cascade lasers (THz QCLs) are compact sources of coherent THz radiation with potential applications that include astronomy, trace-gas sensing, and security imaging. However, the reliance on slow and incoherent thermal detectors has limited their practical use in THz systems.

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

A Two‐Stage Questionnaire and Actigraphy Screening for iRBD in a Multicenter Retrospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Isolated rapid‐eye‐movement sleep behavior disorder is a prodromal marker of synucleinopathies. However, most cases remain undiagnosed due to the insufficient predictive value of questionnaires and limited access to confirmatory video‐polysomnography. We assessed a two‐stage screening strategy combining a brief questionnaire on rapid‐

Real-Time Self-Mixing Interferometer for Long Distances

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2014
This paper describes a novel instrument based on a self-mixing optical interferometer, able to reconstruct the target speed and direction, without heterodyne detection. The real-time elaboration employs the signal nonlinearity to recover the speed sign in the frequency domain.
