Quadrature detection for self-mixing interferometry
Optics Letters, 2018We establish a new quadrature detection system for self-mixing interferometry using two photodiodes and a 22.5-deg rotated beam splitter. The method is based on a rotating beam splitter placed between the laser diode and the measured object, and two quadrature self-mixing signals can be obtained.

Frequency Compensation for a Self-Mixing Interferometer
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2010Laser interferometry is a well-established technique that is widely used in industrial and laboratory environments to measure displacement, velocity, vibration, and distance. Recently, a new technique based on self-mixing (or feedback) interferometry has been introduced.

Self-mixing interferometer for speed measurement with sign
2013 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2013This work describes a novel elaboration of a self-mixing optical interferometer, able to reconstruct the target speed and direction, without using heterodyne detection. The elaboration employs the signal non-linearity in order to recover the speed sign in the frequency domain.

High resolution self-mixing laser rangefinder
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2012This work describes the development of a novel laser instrument for non-contact absolute distance measurements, working in safety class I. The physical principle of operation is based on the self-mixing effect in a laser diode: the laser diode wavelength is modulated through a change of the supply current, inducing a self-mixing signal.

Examination on a self-mixing circuit
2018 International Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Symposium (ACES), 2018In this paper, a self-mixing circuit is introduced, in which, a large local oscillator (LO) signal at the input will pump the device into non-linear regime, whereas the radio frequency (RF) input signal should be connected to the output port, of which the conductance will be changed by the LO drive.

Edge filter enhanced self-mixing interferometry
Optics Letters, 2015Self-mixing interferometry (SMI) represents a simple, robust, and self-aligned technique for metrology applications. Still, its applicability on diffuse targets is limited to distances up to few meters. We present an enhanced approach based on the detection of the frequency-modulated (FM) self-mixing signal. The FM signal detection is achieved using an

A compact rangefinder based on self-mixing interferometry
SPIE Proceedings, 2012This paper presents the development of an optical rangefinder based on self-mixing interferometry. The instrument measures the absolute distance from a remote target, without contact and respecting the Class I safety. A variation of the laser diode bias current origins a modulation of the wavelength and then, due to the phase shift along the channel ...

Multiple signal classification for self-mixing flowmetry
Applied Optics, 2015For the first time to our knowledge, we apply the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm to signals obtained from a self-mixing flow sensor. We find that MUSIC accurately extracts the fluid velocity and exhibits a markedly better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than the commonly used fast Fourier transform (FFT) method. We compare the performance
