Theoretical evaluation of a self-powered neutron detector with a fissile emitter
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1978Abstract The application of enriched uranium as an emitter material for a self-powered neutron detector has been investigated theoretically. It was found that such an emitter should increase the detector sensitivity considerably compared to other conventional materials such as Co, Er or Pt.

The Epithermal Component in the Neutron Response of Various Self-Powered Detectors
IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1980The response of self-powered detectors are characterized by a sensitivity indicating the induced current per unit flux per unit length. However, a reactor neutron spectrum consists of a thermal and epithermal component and we show that the current produced by epithermal neutrons in Pt, Co and Rh detectors is a significant fraction of the total response.

An optical self-powered neutron detector using nuclear pumping
Proceedings of 1994 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium - NSS'94, 2002Based on the nuclear pumped laser technique, an optical self-powered neutron detector is now being investigated, in the JAERI Advanced Science Research Center. The first experiment has been made using lasing gas cells with three components of He-3 gas (1140 mmHg), Ne gas (588 mmHg) and H/sub 2/ gas (206 mmHg or 412 mmHg), or Ar gas (206 mmHg) instead ...

Robust filtering for dynamic compensation of self-powered neutron detectors
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2014Abstract Self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs), which are widely used in nuclear reactors to obtain core neutron flux distribution, are accurate at steady state but respond slowly to changes in neutron flux. Dynamic compensation methods are required to improve the response speed of the SPNDs and make it possible to apply the SPNDs for core ...

Thermal and Epithermal Sensitivities of Cobalt Self-Powered Neutron Detectors
Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1993Thermal and epithermal neutron sensitivities are calculated for cobalt self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs). Using a reformulation of the analytical model for the calculation of the electric charge produced per neutron captured, a multiple-collision treatment for the calculation of the neutron capture rate is introduced.

Review of Scientific Instruments
Self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs) have been utilized within in-core instrumentation to measure neutron flux for control and core flux mapping in nuclear reactors. To estimate neutron flux with SPNDs, a mathematical dynamic model correlating neutron flux and SPND material has been established.

Deconvolution-based real-time neutron flux reconstruction for Self-Powered Neutron Detector
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2018Abstract Self-Powered Neutron Detector (SPND) is useful for in-core neutron flux measurement in nuclear reactors due to its tiny size, simple structure, ruggedness and self-powered feature. One type of SPNDs with delayed current from instable intermediate nuclides cannot directly represent the real-time in-core neutron flux Φ(t) by their current I(t),
